8. Key points of coating production process

8.1 Base fabric selection

In order to produce high-quality denim fabrics with good coating effects, attention should be paid to the following when selecting coated base fabrics:

(1) The surface of the coated base fabric should be smooth and clean, with few neps and impurities, which is very important for the production of high-grade coated denim. If the neps and impurities on the cloth surface are not removed cleanly and completely, after coating and washing, the neps and impurities will be displaced due to water washing, resulting in white star spots on the cloth surface, which will greatly reduce the quality of the cloth surface;

8.2 Preparation of coating slurry

Add appropriate amounts gradually according to the compatibility of each reagent in the process recipe. Temperature and pH should be strictly controlled. The thickness and viscosity of the coating slurry should be determined according to the fabric type, coating method, and coating agent. Use thickener or ammonia to adjust appropriately. The principle is to make the scraping smooth, uniform, and impermeable.

There are two types of coating slurry: prepared solid slurry and foam slurry. The solid slurry is prepared with thickeners and binders; the foam slurry needs to be added with surfactants and foam stabilizers, and is mechanically foamed to form a foam formulation for coating.

8.3 Production precautions

The base fabric to be coated must be desized, mercerized, tentered, and calendered before coating. The mercerizing effect directly affects the coating quality.
