Flame retardant fabric testing is a complex process, and its main purpose is to test whether some physical and chemical properties of the fabric meet industry standards. Common flame-retardant fabric test items mainly include tear strength, breaking strength, shrinkage, abrasion resistance, waterproofness and char length of flame-retardant fabrics after burning for a certain period of time. A brief introduction is given below.
The tear strength and breaking strength of flame retardant fabrics mainly test the strength of the fabric, and are generally tested using a special fabric strength machine. A fabric of a certain length and width is stretched on a strong machine. The strength used when it is broken indicates the strength and elasticity of the fabric. The less likely it is to break, the stronger the fabric is.
The shrinkage rate of flame-retardant fabrics refers to the percentage of fabric shrinkage after the fabric is washed at a certain temperature and number of times according to the European or American standards required by the customer. The test results are used to prove whether or not the fabric has shrunk or the degree of shrinkage.
The test of the abrasion resistance of flame retardant fabrics is mainly to test the abrasion resistance and color fastness of the fabric. Generally, a certain area of fabric is tested using a professional testing machine. The higher the number of times the fabric breaks, the more wear-resistant the fabric is.
The waterproofness test of flame retardant fabrics is to test the waterproofness of the fabric. Generally, the waterproofness of the fabric is expressed by dividing it into grades. The higher the grade, the better the waterproofing effect.
The carbon length of flame-retardant fabrics mainly indicates the flame-retardant properties of the fabric. The test method is to ignite the fabric with an open flame for a certain period of time. After the afterburning and smoldering completely disappear, the carbonization length of the fabric will be determined. Different types of fabrics require different standards. As long as the test length is within the required range of the fabric, it can be defined as qualified.
