Pakistan’s cotton import volume will reach 10,000 bales
According to Pakistani official forecasts, affected by Pakistan’s cotton production reduction and the elimination of cotton import tariffs, Pakistan’s cotton import volume is expected to reach 4.3 million bales in 2018, with an import value of approximately US$1.22 billion.
Recently, Pakistani cotton importers signed approximately 3 million bales of cotton import agreements with India, the United States, and Brazil to meet domestic cotton demand. Since cotton picking in Pakistan has not yet ended, it is expected that by the end of April 2018, Pakistan’s cotton harvest will reach 12.1 million bales, and the cotton gap in the textile industry will reach 3.1 million bales.
It is understood that Pakistan’s cotton imports mainly come from India, with an average annual import volume of about 2.6 million bales and an import value of about US$822 million, followed by the United States and Brazil. Stimulated by the upcoming cancellation of cotton import tariffs by the Federal Revenue Commission of Pakistan, Pakistan’s cotton imports are expected to increase significantly in 2018.
