Recently, I walked into the standardized collective large silkworm house in Jiaxi Village, Xiajia Town, Lingyun County, Guangxi. Silkworm farmers were working together to pick cocoons. There were hills of cocoons on the ground. This was the second batch of fresh cocoons from the village this year. .
Silkworm farmer Lao Wenxiang pressed down the steel frame to “play” Mahjong in front of his homemade “Mahjong cocoon removal machine”, and the cocoons were ejected one by one. In less than a minute, a square cluster of silkworm cocoons has come out. Compared with manual cocoon removal, a square cluster can save 15 minutes on average.

Subsequently, more and more people began to make their own “Mahjong cocoon removing machines” and they quickly became popular throughout the village. At present, all 84 sericulture households in the village who have settled in the collective standardized large silkworm houses have been equipped with “Mahjong cocoon removal machines”, which has successfully solved the problems of high labor, long time and low cocoon removal rate in cocoon removal, an important step in sericulture. It has become a powerful tool to promote the prosperity of the silkworm industry in Jiaxi Village.
Since the development of the silkworm industry in 2012, in the process of planting mulberry and raising silkworms for more than ten years, the wisdom of the people has been continuously brought into play in the production process. People in Jiaxi Village also concluded that “small silkworms are raised well together, and the body will be healthy without disease or disaster”, “big silkworms will be fed well, and silkworm cocoons are indispensable”, “big silkworms will open more windows, and abscesses will be exposed” and other jingles, which can be spread through raising silkworms. Kailai popularizes the technical knowledge of sericulture for all the sericulture farmers in the village and promotes the continuous development of the sericulture industry in Jiaxi Village.
Silkworm farmers joked: “Our village’s sericulture industry has achieved ‘blooming’, which makes us even happier.”
