Datianba Town, Changning: Sericulture industry helps rural revitalization
In the past two days, when I walked into Shuangluba, Huayan Village, Datianba Town, Changning County, I saw lush and green mulberry gardens. In the vast mulberry fields, villagers are taking advantage of the coolness of the morning to pick mulberry leaves.
In the mulberry garden of Huo Wenjun, a silkworm farmer in Huayan Village, Huo Wenjun and his wife were picking mulberry leaves. They moved skillfully and quickly, and they picked a basket in a short time.
“My family has been raising silkworms for 13 years. We raise 5 batches of silkworms a year. Together with the small silkworms we raise ourselves, our annual income is about 100,000 yuan.” Huo Wenjun introduced while picking mulberry leaves.
Through years of development, the sericulture industry has become one of the backbone industries of Huayan Village, Datianba Town. Qu Deqiang, secretary of the Party branch of Huayan Village, said: “Our Huayan Village has planted a total of 746 acres of mulberry gardens, and 86 farmers are planting mulberry and raising silkworms. It is expected to achieve an income of 2.1 million yuan in 2023, which will help farmers increase their income and become rich, and help rural revitalization.”
It is understood that in recent years, Datianba Town has conscientiously grasped the development of the sericulture industry, actively strived for Shanghai and Yunnan assistance projects, hardened mulberry roads, repaired irrigation ditches, and built standardized ground silkworm greenhouses and standardized small silkworms. In the joint breeding room, the sericulture industry continues to drive farmers to increase their income and become rich. In 2022, Datianba Town has a mulberry orchard area of 1,103 acres, 5 batches of 1,382 silkworms were raised throughout the year, 50,000 kilograms of silkworm cocoons were sold, and the total output value was approximately 2.44 million yuan. In 2023, the town has a large silkworm house with an area of 3,950 square meters, 41 ground silkworm greenhouses with an area of 4,200 square meters, and a total of 10 small silkworm co-breeding rooms with an area of 360 square meters. Currently, a total of 174 spring silkworms are cultured, and the income is expected to be 2.5 million yuan this year.
