Tang Lin, President of China Silk Association, delivered a speech
On behalf of the China Silk Association, the organizer of the conference, President Tang expressed his warm welcome and heartfelt thanks to all the leaders, guests, colleagues and friends who attended the opening ceremony of the conference.
Chairman Tang said that the cocoon and silk industry is my country’s traditional national industry, an important people’s livelihood industry and an industry with international competitive advantages. In recent years, faced with the combined effects of a century of changes and a century of epidemics, under the strong leadership of the party and the country, the national cocoon and silk industry has overcome numerous difficulties, seized opportunities, stabilized production, expanded markets, and sought innovation. In the process of structural adjustment, technological progress, and Remarkable results have been achieved in brand building, market expansion, cultural inheritance and other aspects. As the world’s largest cocoon and silk country, its status and advantages have been continuously consolidated. In order to promote rural revitalization, prosper the local economy, meet market consumption, and expand socialEmploymentIndustrial cluster, cultivate enterprise groups (leaders). Technology dimension: It is necessary to start with biotechnology and data technology to improve the silk industry. Environmental dimension: It requires industry integrity and self-discipline and the construction of a self-tracing mechanism. Public (government) dimension: Industry orientation and business environment need to be strengthened.
Regarding feed sericulture and market expansion, President Wu believes that factory-based sericulture is highly efficient, which not only solves the problem of shrinking resources, but also reduces cocoon costs and improves the cost performance of cocoon fiber, and may become a favorite of the middle class. Products cannot be rejected by the industry; factory-based sericulture has high investment and high production capacity. Except for the co-breeding of small silkworms, which can try feed breeding, it is not suitable for comprehensive development, but it cannot be the only one. It is also not conducive to development in industrial competition. Regarding the idea of moving the front end of the industry overseas, it is recommended that the industry compare with factory-based sericulture before considering it. Perhaps it is more feasible to grow mulberry on a large scale overseas and first cooperate with factory-based sericulture feed production. In the future, the cocoon and silk industry will form two industrial chains: traditional breeding, organic classics, suitable for high-end quality and factory sericulture, efficient and economical, and moderate product brands. Chairman Wu finally suggested promoting high-quality development of the industry from aspects such as improving the industrial chain and jointly building an ecosystem.
Entrusted by Liu Zhuoming, chairman and general manager of the China Cocoon and Silk Trading Market (Golden Silkworm Network), Deputy General Manager Qian Mai introduced the cocoon silk market situation
Entrusted by Liu Zhuoming, chairman and general manager of China Cocoon Silk Trading Market (Jincan.com), Deputy General Manager Qian Mai gave a keynote speech on “The sun rises in the east, the rainy day in the west accumulates steps and steps lead to a thousand miles”. He analyzed the basic situation of the cocoon and silk industry chain in 2022 from the aspects of silkworm seeds, cocoons, raw silk, clothing, home textiles, and satin.
Deputy General Manager Qian Mai also reviewed the price trend of 4A grade raw silk in China’s Cocoon and Silk Trading Market from 1996 to early April 2023, the trend of high-quality raw silk index in China’s Cocoon and Silk Trading Market from 2020 to April 2023, and the trend of high-quality raw silk in China’s Cocoon and Silk Trading Market from 2020 to 2023. A detailed interpretation of operating data such as the cocoon index of the China Cocoon and Silk Trading Market in April 2019 was conducted. He analyzed the market-related situation of the cocoon and silk industry in 2022 from three aspects: supply-side inflation expectations, lack of rapid recovery on the demand side, and frequent macroeconomic warm winds: First, supply-side inflation expectations: 1. Cocoon and raw silk inventories are at historically low levels. 2. The number of seeds and the area of mulberry orchards have not increased. The Russian-Ukrainian war has caused a food crisis, and the trend is to return forests to farming. 3. Due to the continuous monetary easing policy, daily necessities and daily agricultural products have increased. Second, the demand side has not recovered quickly: 1. Domestic demand: After the relaxation of prevention and control, the recovery of confidence led to restocking at the beginning of the year: RMB deposits increased by 15.39 trillion yuan in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 4.54 trillion yuan year-on-year. The demand has not improved significantly. It takes time and a tipping point (new varieties of silk and satin, new styles of clothing). 2. In terms of external demand: Silk consumption returned to normal last year (especially in India). In Europe and the United States, consumption was downgraded due to the impact of the Russia-Ukraine war. For external demand, the stock exists and the increase is reduced, maintaining the normal annual level. Third, there are frequent macroeconomic trends: the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council issued the “Strategic Plan for Expanding Domestic Demand (2022-2035)”, making it a national strategy to give full play to the driving role of domestic demand and build a stronger domestic market. It is clear that consumption has become the main driving force of my country’s economic growth, and various specific policies are focused on promoting the continued recovery of consumption. According to Goldman Sachs’ prediction, household consumption will rebound strongly in the second half of 2023. When consumption rebounds strongly, corresponding industries will also have a relatively large value-added, including shopping demand, travel demand, etc., will be stimulated. Of course, it will also greatly benefit the development of the silk industry.
Finally, he elaborated on his personal knowledge and understanding of the keywords and key points of the economic operation of the cocoon and silk industry in 2023: Keywords in 2023: road to recovery, confidence building, consumption changes, and industrial evolution. Key points in 2023: Appropriately control production capacity, achieve a dynamic balance between supply and demand, and adapt to the gradual recovery of demand; put quality first, serve with integrity, achieve mutual benefit and win-win cooperation between upstream and downstream; increase efforts in the development of new varieties, and actively integrate into the development of large-scale textiles Blue ocean to boost confidence and determination in consumer demand. Embrace industrialized cocoons from the perspective of development, actively use the power of sericulture scientific and technological progress to improve efficiency and control costs, adapt to the development of the new era and continuously expand industrial boundaries. New technologies, new scenarios, and new advantages bring diversified opportunities, and use the new advantages of silk Enhance the resilience and stamina of industry development. Generally speaking, in 2023, silk will most likely recover from confidence to demand.
