The annual spring silkworm breeding begins and 27,500 spring silkworm seeds in Tongxiang are distributed
On April 25, 27,500 spring silkworm seeds were distributed in Tongxiang City, Zhejiang Province at the Qingqing Building of the Municipal Sericulture Management Station, and the annual spring silkworm breeding officially began. At 1 p.m., staff from all towns (streets) across the city collected silkworm seeds in an orderly manner.
This year, Tongxiang City distributed 27,500 spring silkworm seeds through the Municipal Sericulture Management Station. In addition, there are about 28,000 spring silkworm seeds ordered by farmers themselves. Therefore, the actual number of spring silkworms raised in the city is about 55,500, and the actual number of spring silkworms raised is slightly smaller than last year.
In order to comprehensively promote the “secondary breeding” breeding technology of small silkworms, on the same day, the municipal sericulture management department distributed more than 3,000 technical guidance materials for the “secondary breeding” of small silkworms to farmers along with the spring silkworm seeds. The sericulture management department reminds that the cocoon and silk market is stable and improving this year, and the price of cocoons is expected to rebound. During this period, the temperature in Tongxiang City is generally lower than normal. After the silkworm seeds are distributed, silkworm farmers must promptly follow technical guidance to hatch the silkworm seeds and collect ants. “The silkworm seeds we distribute will be harvested on April 28. Silkworm farmers must be exposed to light three hours in advance that morning to ensure the quality of the hatched silkworms.” Municipal farmer Yao Lijuan, a senior agronomist at the Sericulture Technology Extension Station of the Institute, also reminded silkworm farmers that during the entire process of supplementing and promoting greening, the temperature of the silkworm room should be maintained between 25°C and 25.5°C, with a difference in dry humidity of 1 to 1.5 degrees.
