National textile and apparel exports resumed positive growth in March

According to the statistics of the General Administration of Customs, in the first quarter of this year, the national textile and clothing exports were US$67.23 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 6.7% (a slight increase of 0.7% year-on-year in RMB) %), the decline has narrowed compared with the fourth quarter of last year, showing an improving trend month by month. In the month of March, my country’s textile and apparel exports to the world amounted to US$26.39 billion, a year-on-year growth rate of 20% higher than expected (a year-on-year growth of 28.9% in RMB), and the month-on-month growth rate turned from negative to positive. Among them, textile exports were US$12.91 billion, a year-on-year increase of 9.5% (a year-on-year increase of 17.6% in RMB); clothing exports were US$13.49 billion, a year-on-year increase of 32.3% (a year-on-year increase of 42.1% in RMB), higher than the year-on-year growth rate of national goods exports. 17.5 percentage points.

Relevant departments stated that my country’s foreign trade market was stable and improving in March, which is a reflection of the vast number of foreign trade companies giving full play to their vitality, taking the initiative, actively grabbing orders and expanding the market. In particular, private enterprises with a large number and strong flexibility have played a positive role in stabilizing the scale and optimizing the structure of foreign trade. In March, the growth rate of my country’s textile and apparel exports turned from negative to positive, which also fully demonstrated the operational resilience of the textile industry dominated by private enterprises and the international competitive advantages of the entire industry chain. At present, the global economic environment is still not optimistic, and many countries are at risk of falling into economic recession. Factors such as weak external demand, insufficient orders, and geopolitical risks will still be practical challenges faced by the industry’s foreign trade for a period of time. At the same time, this year’s difficulties are partly global. For example, as one of the countries with rapid growth in textile exports in recent years, Vietnam’s textile and apparel exports fell by 18.6% year-on-year in the first quarter of this year, and by 12.9% year-on-year in March, and the situation of subsequent foreign trade orders is not optimistic.
