Ankang Sericulture Center: The new silkworm variety “Xing’an Qinyuan” passed the approval
On March 17, good news came from the 33rd Academic Annual Conference of the Northern Sericulture Research Collaboration Zone held in Hefei, Anhui. The new silkworm variety “Xing’an” was bred by the Ankang Sericulture Industry Development Center. “Qinyuan” was approved by the Silkworm Variety Approval Committee of the Northern Sericulture Research Collaboration Zone. This is the first new breed of silkworm to be approved since the establishment of the Municipal Sericulture Center.
This variety is based on the production needs of artificial feed breeding of small silkworms and mulberry leaf breeding of large silkworms. It is bred from multiple preserved original silkworm mother species and basic breeding materials using methods of cross breeding, pure line separation, and directional selection. . The data from joint laboratories in five provinces including Shandong, Henan and Shanxi in the past two years show that many of its economic traits are better than those of the control varieties, including hatching, sleeping and rising, and neat development; strong silkworms have a thick body and eat mulberry. It has excellent traits such as vigorous growth, rapid cocoon growth, uniform cocoon shape, white cocoon color, and medium shrinkage. Moreover, the 1-3-year-old artificial feed has good feeding ability and high hair thinning rate. The approval committee believes that it can be used as an artificial feed silkworm breed to be promoted in northern silkworm areas such as Shaanxi Province.
In recent years, the Ankang Sericulture Center has increased the protection and utilization of silkworm germplasm resources, encouraged and supported scientific researchers to use the existing advantageous germplasm resources to carry out multi-directional research on the breeding of new silkworm varieties, and vigorously cultivated new varieties suitable for Ankang’s spring and autumn climate characteristics and production Develop new varieties of silkworms needed to continuously adapt to scale, intensification and cocoonsilknew product development and utilization of sericulture by-products It is necessary to give full play to the role of the “chip” of silkworm varieties to promote the highquality development of the sericulture industry.
