Experts from the Sericulture Institute of the Sichuan Academy of Agricultural Sciences provide technical services at the Langzhong Sericulture Base

Researcher Zhang Youhong, director of the Nanchong Comprehensive Experiment Station of the National Sericulture Industry Technology System of the Institute of Sericulture, led researcher Zhang Jianfei, a post scientist of the National Sericulture Industry Technology System, and associate researcher Chen Yi’an, editor-in-chief of “Sichuan Sericulture”, to Langzhong City’s sericulture base to provide pre-spring silkworm technical services. Leaders of Langzhong City Sericulture and Fruit Tree Technology Extension Station, Sichuan Huahai Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., Langzhong City Sangzi Sericulture Breeding Professional Cooperative and other relevant units participated.

At the Langzhong City Sangzi Sericulture Breeding Professional Cooperative, the experts reviewed the management of the mulberry garden base, the standardized construction of sericulture greenhouses and small silkworm co-breeding rooms, and met with industry managers such as the Langzhong City Sericulture and Fruit Tree Station, Huahai Company, and Sangzi Cooperative. Departments held discussions with new business entities. Zhao Jiang, president of the cooperative, reported on the sericulture production, income, and existing problems in 2022, and put forward technical needs based on the cooperative’s development goals in 2023. The person in charge of the Langzhong City Sericulture and Fruit Tree Technology Promotion Station introduced the Langzhong Municipal Party Committee and Government’s support policies for the sericulture industry in 2023, and analyzed the main work objectives of industry development. Researcher Zhang Youhong pointed out: Langzhong has a very good sericulture history and production foundation, especially silk tapestries, high-grade silk quilts, mulberry vinegar, etc., which have become iconic products of Langzhong ancient city tourism. The development of Langzhong’s sericulture industry must be based on market demand, highlight key points, and seek not to be bigger but to be better, so as to ensure that the characteristic sericulture industry contributes to rural revitalization. The Institute of Sericulture of the Institute will use various service platforms such as the national sericulture industry technology system to Support the highquality development of Langzhong’s sericulture industry.

Experts suggest that the following work should be done currently: First, strengthen the spring fertilizer management of mulberry trees to increase the yield and quality of mulberry leaves. The second is to complete the pruning of mulberry trees as soon as possible to ensure the normal germination of spring buds. Third, cooperatives should serve as a demonstration and driving force to drive sericulture farmers to engage in standardized sericulture production and comprehensively improve the yield and quality of silkworm cocoons.
