Jiangxi Province’s cotton planting area and output achieved double growth
Learned from the Jiangxi Provincial Bureau of Statistics: Approved by the National Bureau of Statistics, the cotton sown area in Jiangxi Province this year is 197,000 hectares (296,000 acres), an increase of 78.8%; the output is 22,000 tons, an increase of 26.4%. Cotton planting area and output have achieved double growth.
This year, Jiangxi Province has increased policy subsidies for cotton planting and encouraged traditional cotton areas to resume cotton planting. The province’s cotton planting area increased by 130,000 acres compared with the previous year, an increase of 78.8%, achieving the first growth since 2017. Major cotton-producing areas such as Jiujiang and Yichun actively organize cotton production and effectively promote the expansion of cotton planting. Jiujiang planted 251,000 acres of cotton, an increase of 135,000 acres over the previous year, accounting for 84.8% of the province’s total area; Yichun planted 22,000 acres of cotton, an increase of 4,000 acres over the previous year.
The continuous high temperature and drought weather from July to August this year had an adverse impact on cotton in the flowering and boll-bearing stage, and cotton planting experienced varying degrees of yield reduction. Although the yield per unit area decreased, due to the expansion of cotton planting area in the province, the total cotton output still increased by 5,000 tons or 26.4% compared with the previous year. Among them, Jiujiang’s cotton output was 17,000 tons, an increase of 43.2%; Yichun’s cotton output was 2,000 tons, an increase of 14.0%.
