Two new cotton varieties in Hubei Province passed national approval
On November 30, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced that the new cotton varieties EZ9 and ZD2040, developed under the auspices of the Hubei Academy of Agricultural Sciences’ Institute of Economic Research, passed the approval of the National Crop Variety Approval Committee.
EZ9 and ZD2040 are both genetically modified early-maturing conventional cotton varieties. The growth period of EZ9 is 105 days; the regional trial lint yields 86.9 kilograms per mu, an increase of 15.2% compared with the control; the average length of the upper half of the HVICC fiber is 29.4 mm, and the specific breaking strength is 30.6 centinton/N/ Tex, micronaire value 5.0, reaching high quality type II standard. The growth period of ZD2040 is 102 days; the regional trial lint yield is 76.9 kilograms per mu, an increase of 3.7% compared with the control; the average length of the upper half of the HVICC fiber is 29.9 mm, the breaking specific strength is 33.3 cN/tex, and the micronaire value is 4.6, reaching high-quality type II standard.
The two varieties are suitable for post-harvest planting of rapeseed or wheat in the cotton areas of the Yangtze River Basin. They meet the current demand for green, high-quality, full-process mechanized planting of cotton, and have broad prospects for promotion and application.
