“Silkworm+” in Shishan – A visit to a mountain village in Xi’an, Guangxi
Entering December, the weather is getting colder in Lingyun County, Guangxi, which is located in the rocky desertification area of Yunnan, Guangxi and Guizhou. The more than 10 acres of mulberry orchards owned by Zhuang farmers are no longer as lush as before. At the end of this year, A sum of income from silkworm cocoons has also been successfully received. Although it is the traditional slack season for farming, this year the silkworm farmers in Lao Jian Aihe Village have a new thing to do – they are familiar with mushroom cultivation technology under the guidance of the village team members and the village “two committees” cadres.
Jiaxi Village, where Lao Jianai lives, is located in the mountains of Xiajia Town, Lingyun County. Wan Zaihua, secretary of the Party Committee of Xiajia Town, said that faced with the situation of more mountains and less land, the local area has based on its ecological advantages and cultivated and expanded special industries such as mulberry silkworms, which has provided strong support for rural revitalization.
Along the Tongtun Mountain Road, the silkworm houses among the hills are very conspicuous. “In the past, the village’s income mainly relied on migrant workers, but now it makes full use of the hillside land to grow mulberry. Nearly 70% of the farmers in the village are involved in the mulberry industry.” Liang Anzhong, the first village secretary of Jiaxi Village who graduated from Peking University with a doctorate, said that at present, The village’s mulberry garden covers an area of 2,800 acres, with 160 collective silkworm houses. The average annual output value of silkworm cocoons exceeds 10 million yuan.
Lao Shoufan, deputy secretary of the Party branch of Jiaxi Village, is one of the first batch of people in the village to get rich by planting mulberry and raising silkworms, and is also one of the first batch of rural “soil experts” in Lingyun County. “It is not easy to develop industries in Shishan. After we went out for inspections, we felt that planting mulberry and raising silkworms was a good project, so we took the lead in demonstrating it. If there are actual results, we will mobilize villagers to participate.” Lao Shoufan said.
“With policy support and help from cadres, everyone has confidence that the government not only provides mulberry seedlings, young silkworms and breeding technology, but also helps find stable sales.” In recent years, Lao Jianai and his wife have continued to expand On a large scale, he has sold 10 batches of silkworm cocoons this year, earning an income of more than 50,000 yuan. His house has also been renovated.
Taking into account that silkworms cannot be grown year-round, Jiaxi Village, on the basis of consolidating the original silkworm industry, has also developed industries such as chicken raising and mulberry planting under the forest to expand channels for people to increase income and strengthen the collective economy. In 2021, the average household income from sericulture in Jiaxi Village was 42,000 yuan, and the village’s collective economic income reached 256,000 yuan. In 2022, the village collective economic income is expected to exceed 500,000 yuan.
“In recent years, the county has continuously promoted the construction of pastoral complexes, accumulating new momentum for rural revitalization. We focus on the beautiful countryside and make plans based on local conditions.” Yue Meng, a member of the Jiaxi Village resident work team, introduced that through “Company + Based on the “base + cooperative + farmer” model, Jiaxi Village planted 150 acres of fruit mulberries as a demonstration this year. The varieties were carefully selected by the county’s economic crop development center based on the actual situation of the mountain village. In the future, a whole industry of fresh fruit sales, wine making, and vegetable preparation will be developed. chain.
Recently, the cadres stationed in Jiaxi Village have set their sights on the mushroom industry. “After studying and discussing, we decided to revitalize the idle silkworm houses in winter and explore the development of ‘mulberry edible fungi’ to help the masses solve the problem of lack of stable income sources in winter and spring, and achieve coverage of characteristic industries all year round.” Liang Anzhong said.
“Our village has won the honorary titles of ‘National Civilized Villages’ and ‘National Rural Governance Demonstration Villages’. The small mountain village has achieved a beautiful transformation.” said Huang Sen, secretary of the Party branch of Jiaxi Village.
