China National Offshore Oil Corporation (“CNOOC” for short) announced on the 26th that the Ministry of Natural Resources of China has recently completed the review and filing of the proven reserves report of the Kenli 6-1 oil field.
As of now, the proven geological reserves of Kenli 6-1 Oilfield exceed 100 million tons, marking The oil field has become the first large-scale oil field with a capacity of 100 million tons in the northern part of Laizhou Bay in China’s Bohai Sea.
What level of oil field is it with reserves exceeding 100 million tons? What significance does it have for CNOOC and my country’s energy sector?
◆ Can drive one million cars for 20 years
In its 2019 performance report released at the end of March 2020, CNOOC disclosed the new discovery of the Kenli 6-1 oil field for the first time and stated that it is expected to become the first large oil field in the low uplift in the northern part of Laizhou Bay. .
In the past two years, CNOOC has drilled 42 exploration wells in this oil field. It has been confirmed that the Kenli 6-1 oil field has the characteristics of large reserves, good oil quality, and high test productivity, with an oil-bearing area of over 100 square kilometers. Calculated based on conventional crude oil recovery rates, after being refined into gasoline and diesel, it can be used by 1 million cars for more than 20 years.
According to industry insiders, generally those with recoverable reserves of more than 500 million tons are called extra-large oil fields, those with more than 70 million tons are large oil fields, and those with less than 70 million tons are small and medium-sized oil fields. The proven reserves of this oil field reach 100 million tons. It is the largest oil field in the Bohai Sea and is also a large oil field nationwide.
According to reports, the Kenli 6-1 oil field is currently accelerating development and evaluation work and will be put into production as soon as possible. The huge exploration prospects of this oil field will lay a solid resource guarantee for the Bohai Oilfield to achieve its goal of maintaining green and stable production for 10 years and increasing production by 40 million tons.
In recent years, CNOOC has vigorously enhanced domestic oil and gas exploration and development, and launched the “Seven-Year Action Plan” to increase oil and gas reserves and production in early 2019.
Wang Dongjin, chairman of CNOOC, said that the Kenli 6-1 oil field is an important result of the company’s increase in domestic oil and gas exploration and development. CNOOC will continue to play the role of “leading” in exploration to find large oil fields. Focusing on medium-sized oil and gas fields, we strive to achieve more new breakthroughs in more complex oil and gas reservoirs and deeper waters, making important contributions to promoting the high-quality development of China’s offshore oil industry and ensuring national energy security.
◆ It took 40 years to find the Bohai billion-ton oil field
It took 40 years for Kenli 6-1 to “float” out of the sea. The discovery is located in the northern area of Laizhou Bay in the Bohai Sea and belongs to the Bohai Oilfield, the largest offshore oil field in my country.
In fact, since the late 1970s, this area has gone through multiple rounds of exploration for more than 40 years, but the results have been unsatisfactory. The discovered reserves are small in scale and not concentrated, making it impossible to establish Effective development system.
The low uplift in the northern part of Laizhou Bay is the only uplift in the Bohai oil field where no commercial oil and gas has been discovered in the past half century. In 1979, China drilled two wells on this bulge, but with no success. From 1990 to 2007, when deep layers were explored, only oil and gas showed but no oil and gas fields. From 2008 to 2010, I moved to shallow levels, but still failed to gain anything. From 2016 to 2018, three-dimensional exploration was carried out, and the average proven reserves of a single well were only 850,000 tons.
Faced with this situation, based on the “converging ridge” theory proposed by Xue Yong’an, chief geologist of the Bohai Petroleum Administration Bureau, in 2019, scientific researchers focused on shallow layers and changed the exploration direction from The high point of the bulge is transferred to the low part, and the structure-lithological trap is transferred to the lithological trap. This opens up the prospect of exploration of the bulge.
“The average water depth in this area is between 15 and 20 meters, so it is not difficult to exploit. The Kenli Uplift is dominated by light crude oil, and the thickness of the oil layer ranges from 8 to 20 meters. Meters, although the scale of a single oil layer will not be too large, multi-layer systems can form an economically exploitable scale. Effective development and economical extraction are the two most important points.” He once engaged in oil exploration and development in the southern Bohai Sea. Industry insiders told reporters.
Based on the discovery of Kenli 6-1, CNOOC stated that it will continue to promote oil and gas reserves and production, and promote the Bozhong 19-6 pilot area and my country’s first self-operated Eight new projects, including the integrated deepwater oil field Liuhua 16-2, were successfully put into operation, striving for continued growth in domestic crude oil and natural gas production.
◆Can reduce China’s dependence on foreign crude oil
Dong Xiucheng, a professor at the University of International Business and Economics and an expert on energy economics, told China News Service that new discoveries in the eastern region have played a positive role in stabilizing and increasing China’s crude oil production.
“The production process of oil fields is also a process of natural production reduction. Many old oil fields in my country have entered a period of decline, and there are certain difficulties in stabilizing and increasing production. New discoveries can make up for the production reduction, so This is good news for stable and increased production and my country’s energy security,” Dong Xiucheng said.
my country is the world’s largest oil importer and the world’s second largest oil consumer. In 2019, my country’s crude oil imports exceeded 500 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 19.6%, setting a new record high. At the same time, my country’s crude oil dependence on foreign countries reached 72.5% in 2019.
《National Petroleum CorporationThe “Medium and Long-term Plan for Preparation (2008-2020)” shows that in 2020, China will form a total reserve equivalent to 100 days of net oil imports. In September 2019, the National Energy Administration stated that commercial and strategic crude oil inventories were approximately 80 days of net imports, which was still a shortfall of 20 days of net imports from the target, approximately 25.7 million tons.
Han Zhengji, a crude oil analyst at Jinlianchuang, analyzed to a reporter from China News Service that China has a huge demand for crude oil, but its dependence on foreign countries is high. For the country, the discovery of large oil fields can reduce dependence.
“Kenli 6-1 is the first 100-million-ton oil field in the Bohai Sea region, which means that there will be a good prospect for oil exploration in the Bohai Sea in the next ten years. At the same time, this oil field The discovery also provides certain technical and ideological reference for China’s offshore oil exploration and other aspects,” Han Zhengji said. </p
