Why does the width of cotton flame-retardant fabric become smaller?

Flame-retardant fabrics refer to fabrics that, even if ignited by an open flame, can automatically extinguish within 12 seconds after leaving the open flame. According to the order of adding flame retardant materials, they are divided into two types: pre-processed flame retardant fabrics and post-processed flame retardant fabrics.
According to the different proportions of cotton components in flame-retardant cloth, it is divided into cotton flame-retardant cloth, C/N flame-retardant cloth and CVC flame-retardant cloth; aramid flame-retardant cloth is synthesized from aramid flame-retardant fiber. Fabric is a natural flame-retardant fabric with the advantages of heat resistance, high strength, high wear resistance, good softness, low shrinkage, stable chemical structure, no melting droplets when burned, and no poisonous gas.
To find out the reason for the smaller width, we need to look for it from the flame retardant pre-treatment process. Take a look at the mercerizing and subsequent tentering in the desizing-scouring-bleaching-mercerizing process.
The problem lies in the two stages of mercerizing and tentering. Let me explain here that mercerizing stabilizes the structure of the fabric, so generally there will be a width after mercerizing, but the width will increase after tentering, but The tenter cannot be exposed to water. Once it encounters water, it will return to the width of the mercerizing stage. Therefore, many small workshops and irregular manufacturers measure the width after tenter without taking into account what happens after washing. Therefore, no matter what kind of product is made, it will shrink after being washed again.
