Mexico to revive cotton production
According to a report by Mexico’s “Economist” on April 14, Mexico’s cotton revenue in 2014 was 5.3 billion pesos (approximately US$350 million), and some production has been restored. The National Council of Cotton Producers of Mexico stated that it will re-promote cotton production in Mexico and plans to increase the cotton planting area from 164,000 hectares to 417,000 hectares during the current government. In the 1960s and 1970s, Mexico was an important cotton producer, but it has gradually declined since then. The council said it would apply for a loan from the government rather than ask for a grant.
