Ethiopia implements tax-free export system for raw hides
According to a report by Ethiopian Fanner Broadcasting Corporation on January 8, the Ethiopian Ministry of Trade and Industry recently lifted the export tax policy on Ethiopian raw hides and skins to cope with the decline in export performance of leather products in recent years. .
It is reported that Ethiopia’s livestock population ranks first in Africa, and rawhide and leather products are its main export commodities, which can effectively drive the country’s export earnings. However, due to the imposition of export taxes, the international community’s purchase of Ethiopian leather has gradually weakened. In the 2018-2019 fiscal year, Ethiopian exports of raw hides and leather products fell by 11.7%. To this end, Ethiopia has implemented a tax-free export system for raw hides and skins to stimulate investment in Ethiopia’s leather manufacturing industry and earn foreign exchange from leather exports.
