Can special fabrics produced thousands of years ago be rediscovered today? Can the joy of splashing ink on silk and flying books be reproduced today? Recently, the camera crew of the China Central Radio and Television Station’s “Chinese Calligraphy Conference” column visited the Liuhe Silk Factory in Gaoping District, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, and used the lens to explore a special writing material-spun silk fabric, in order to recreate the work of the Northern Song Dynasty calligrapher Mi The famous post “Shu Su Tie” was completed by splashing ink and flying calligraphy on fu silk for pre-production.

On the day of filming, the author visited the scene and saw that the Liuhe Silk Factory was even more tranquil under the cover of centuries-old ginkgo trees. Dai Yue, vice chairman of the Chinese Calligraphers Association, turned into an explorer and walked one by one through the ruins of the original “Second Silk Factory” gate of Liuhe Silk Factory, Liuheyuan built in the Qing Dynasty, and the newly built SilkCultural and Creative Market and other places, look for the “spun silk fabric” used in the running silk version of “Shu Su Tie” and pick up historical memories that have been forgotten for thousands of years.

As the camera changes, the humanities and history behind the “Silk Capital of China” and “Hometown of Silk” emerge one by one, illuminating the step-by-step steps Gaoping has taken in the inheritance and innovation of silk culture as the “Source of Silk in the World” , further promoted Gaoping’s cultural tourism resources.

Gaoping is rich in sericulture. In 1912, the democratic revolutionary Zhang Lan founded the Liuhe Silk Factory in Gaoping. Over the next hundred years, the factory won the gold medal at the Panama Pacific International Exposition. It was once the largest silk reeling enterprise in Asia and opened the way for Sichuan silk to go global. In 2021, Liuhe Silk Factory will be selected as a national industrial heritage; in 2022, the opening ceremony of the Sichuan International Culture and Tourism Festival will be held at Liuhe Silk Factory. Liuhe Silk Factory is also the only silk reeling and weaving factory in the west that is intact, large-scale and still in production today.

How did such a “treasure scenic spot” attract the attention of the CCTV program team?

Tian Jingyuan, director of the project team of China Central Radio and Television Station’s “Chinese Calligraphy Conference”, said that among the famous calligraphy monuments and calligraphy of the past dynasties involved in the program, “Shu Su Tie” is a very special one because it was written by the famous calligrapher Mi Fu of the Northern Song Dynasty. It is handed down from generation to generation on silk fabrics produced in Sichuan. This work is not only an outstanding work in the history of calligraphy, but also an important carrier of Chinese silk weaving civilization. It is an exchange and collision of two historical and cultural treasures.

“When we were doing preliminary research, we were wondering, is ‘Shu Su’ still around today? Can such a special fabric be reproduced in Sichuan?” Tian Jingyuan said, while the program team was looking around, Liuhe from Gaoping, Nanchong The silk factory attracted the attention of the program crew.

“Nanchong is worthy of being the ‘Chinese Silk Capital’. We were pleasantly surprised when we came here: we discovered Chinese looms from past dynasties here and saw the handicrafts of the traditional silk weaving industry. What is particularly important is that we found here We are very excited about silk fabrics suitable for writing. Liuhe Silk Factory is a treasure worthy of our admiration and experience.” Tian Jingyuan said with emotion.

Dai Yue was deeply impressed by the textile scene he saw during the filming: “The textile workers were flying their hands to weave the warp and weft threads, as if they were playing their own strings. This made me feel the outstanding people in Gaoping and the souls of the textile workers. Handy.”

Dai Yue expressed that he hopes that through the combination of silk and calligraphy, he can create calligraphy works like “Shu Su Tie” that reflect the spirit of the times and can be passed down to future generations, so that calligraphy can praise a wider range of workers.

The large-scale calligraphy culture quarterly TV program “Chinese Calligraphy Conference” aims to deeply explore calligraphy culture, panoramically display the long history of the development of Chinese characters and the extensive and profound history of Chinese calligraphy, and inject new life into ancient inscriptions through advanced visual presentation. It vividly expresses the ideological and spiritual power contained in Chinese culture and fully demonstrates the cultural confidence of the Chinese nation.
