Guangxi is one of the starting points of the ancient “Maritime Silk Road”. In recent years, with the implementation of the “Eastern Mulberry Movement to the West” strategy, Guangxi’s mulberry orchard area, silkworm cocoons and mulberry silk production have ranked first in the country for many years. A cocoon and silk production and processing cluster has been formed centered on Hengzhou, Yizhou, Xincheng, Liucheng, Qinzhou and other places. There are more than 100 silk production enterprises, gradually forming a development pattern of “Look to China for world silk, and look to Guangxi for Chinese silk”.

In this regard, in 2020, Nanning Customs established the Technical Trade Measures Investigation and Research Center (ASEAN), and jointly built the “Guangxi Cocoon and Silk Products Technical Trade Measures Research and Evaluation Base” with the Department of Industry and Information Technology of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region to comprehensively improve technology The ability to respond to trade measures can solve the pain points and difficult problems of Guangxi’s cocoon and silk industry and promote the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.

In addition, Nanning Customs has cooperated with the cocoon and silk industry to explore the formation of a “registration + remote image-assisted quarantine” supervision model characterized by “system + technology” to export raw silkThe inspection time is shortened from the original 1-2 days to 8-15 minutes, greatly improving the level of trade facilitation.

At present, the customs has promoted the implementation of the reform of the response mechanism for technical trade measures for Guangxi cocoon and silk products, and the detection efficiency has increased by more than 30% year-on-year. In 2022, Guangxi exported 620.1 tons of raw silk with a value of 260 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 170.1% and 222.3% respectively.

The production and export of front- and back-end products in the silkworm industry chain are also booming in Guangxi. Since 2022, Guangxi has exported 43 batches of silkworm seeds with a value of US$13.746 million. In Hechi City, Guangxi, which was awarded the “New Silk City of China” by the China Silk Association, Nanning Customs guided local companies to tailor a new export inspection model to control quality from the source of production, establish a traceability management system to help companies expand their export scale. The back-end products of the local silkworm industry chain, including frozen silkworm pupae, silkworm excrement organic fertilizer, and dried silkworms, have been exported one after another.

In 2022, Guangxi exported 7,099.5 tons of frozen silkworm pupae, with a value of US$13.182 million, a year-on-year increase of 78% and 77.6% respectively. Export volume in the first quarter of this year reached 29.064 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 90.4%.
