Huidong County, Sichuan Province, will seize the advantage of the sericulture industry and not relax. Coordinate and promote the first batch of spring silkworm breeding in 2023 to ensure the continued and steady development of the sericulture industry.
On April 19, walking into the silkworm co-breeding room of Group 4 of Guangming Village, Xinjie Town, co-breeder Li Zhanyuan was removing sand from the silkworms and evenly scattering the chopped green mulberry leaves in the silkworm box. . “This time we raised a total of 32.5 young silkworms in the co-breeding room. Every day, technicians come to provide technical guidance and help us solve problems in time. Now they are 2 years old and need to be fed with mulberry leaves twice a day. After the third age, , distributed to silkworm farmers, took them back and raised them themselves.” Li Zhanyuan introduced to reporters.
Knowing that spring silkworms were about to be distributed, Li Zhengwei, a mulberry farmer from Group 7 of Zengyi Village who had more than 20 years of silkworm raising experience, hurriedly went to the mulberry garden to check the growth of mulberry leaves. Li Zhengwei said while checking the growth of mulberry leaves: “Now the sericulture facilities and equipment are gradually improving, and we are raising more silkworms every year. This year we plan to raise 28 to 30 silkworms, and about 4 spring silkworms. In recent years, we have relied on raising silkworms. The economic income of silkworms is gradually increasing, and life is getting better and better.”
As the saying goes: Plant mulberries densely and raise silkworms simply, and you will get cash in seventeen or eighty days. Li Zhengwei can earn about 15,000 yuan just by raising silkworms. Raising silkworms has made their lives better and better.
It is understood that the Hongyan area of Xinjie Town has jurisdiction over 4 villages, 28 groups, and 602 large silkworm farmers. In 2023, there are 6,326 acres of mulberry orchards in this area, with more than 4,800 silkworms planned to be raised, and 4,380 dans of cocoons expected to be produced. The income of silkworm farmers from selling cocoons will reach 11 million yuan; of which 747 are raised in spring, and 750 dans of cocoons are expected to be produced. At the same time, Xinjie Town has further revised and improved the assessment methods for sericulture production, coordinating the efforts of town and village cadres, cocoon stations, and co-nurturing rooms to advance sericulture production in an orderly manner.
According to Sun Yueqiang, deputy mayor of Xinjie Town, the town has put into use three new village-level collective breeding rooms this year. Currently, the silkworms are in their first and second instars, and the distribution of baby silkworms is about to begin. Next, the town will organize town and village cadres and professional and technical personnel from the cocoon station to inspect the disinfection situation of the silkworm farmers’ large silkworm houses to ensure that the spring cocoon acquisition gets off to a good start.
This year, Huidong County will continue to give full play to the “short, flat and fast” advantages of the sericulture industry, and work hard to improve the quality and efficiency of the sericulture industry. It plans to invest more than 9 million yuan in sericulture infrastructure, investing in key townships (towns). Build 30 sets of smart co-incubation rooms, 81 standardized large silkworm rooms, 100 sets of labor-saving electric silkworm tables, and 200 new disinfection machines. At the same time, we will carry out in-depth technical guidance such as co-breeding of small silkworms and breeding of large silkworms, fully implement this year’s first batch of spring silkworm breeding technical services, continue to promote new development of the mulberry silkworm industry, and empower rural revitalization and increase people’s income.
Ai Jun, production section chief of County CocoonSilk Industry Development Co., Ltd., said: “Our company organizes the company’s technical backbones to prepare small silkworms for each township (town) before spring silkworms are raised. Co-breeding rooms and large silkworm households provide technical training. This year’s cocoon purchase price market is improving, maintaining a stable and increasing trend compared with last year.”
Sericulture is Huidong County’s traditional advantageous industry. 14 of the 19 towns (streets) in the county have developed the sericulture industry. In 2023, there are 1,200 acres of newly renovated mulberry gardens in the county, and the first batch of spring silkworms will be cultured at 18,800 pieces. It is expected that 18,300 tons of cocoons will be produced, and the income of silkworm farmers from selling cocoons will reach 50 million yuan.
