Shaya: Agricultural materials are ready and cotton sowing is expected to start in early April
In mid-to-late March, various regions in Xinjiang gradually entered the peak period of cotton sowing preparations, and spring sowing materials in various regions were ready. Affected by the weather, the spring sowing work in Xinjiang’s Shaya region has not yet started, but it is expected to be fully launched in early April.
A local cotton farmer said that this year he plans to contract 3,500 acres of land, including 300 acres of wheat, 200 acres of corn, and 3,000 acres of machine-picked cotton, an increase of about 700 acres from 2,300 acres in 2023. The cotton farmer’s cotton planting area increased mainly due to the following two reasons: First, due to the low purchase price of seed cotton last year, some cotton farmers who rented land did not earn high incomes. This year, the cotton planting plan was canceled, and the cotton farmer chose to expand the contract scale; second, the cotton farmer was optimistic about This year’s cotton market situation has increased the cotton planting area.
In order to reduce the cost of cotton planting, the cotton farmer had purchased agricultural inputs years ago. The price of cotton seeds was about 26 yuan/kg and the price of fertilizer was 24,500 yuan/ton. The main work at present is to dry the seeds, spread fertilizers, and maintain equipment to ensure that the spring sowing work goes smoothly.
