We know each other no matter how far we are, but we are still neighbors thousands of miles away. On behalf of the China Textile Federation, I would like to congratulate the China Cotton Textile Industry Association on the convening of the second enlarged meeting of the sixth council members and the third standing council of the sixth session!
The just-concluded 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China has opened a new chapter in Chinese-style modernization and provided fundamental guidance for the future development of China’s textile industry. I would like to take this opportunity to share some insights with you.
1. The textile industry will surely play an irreplaceable role in the process of Chinese modernization
In the new era and new journey, China’s textile industry promotes the high-quality development of technology, fashion, and green. The development of the textile industry resonates with the country’s prosperity, national rejuvenation, and people’s happiness.

The textile industry is an important force in improving people’s rights and well-being, and has the ability and potential to further transform demographic advantages into development advantages and market advantages. According to statistics from the World Labor Organization, in 2021, China’s labor productivity reached US$16,512/person, which is higher than Vietnam (US$3,905/person), India (US$6,688/person) and other countries and regions.

As one of the earliest industrial sectors in China to propose the goal of carbon neutrality, the textile industry is at the forefront of sustainable management innovation, energy and water conservation, pollution prevention, comprehensive utilization of resources, and green manufacturing, and is an important promoter of global sustainable governance. . The industry actively applies green technology, promotes green consumption, improves green standards, and continues to promote green and low-carbon transformation upstream and downstream of the entire industry chain. Since 2016, a total of 251 green design products, 91 green factories, 10 green supply chain companies, and 11 green design demonstration companies have been included in the list of green manufacturing system construction by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

The textile industry is an important force in promoting the realization of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and building a community with a shared future for mankind. In 2021, China’s total fiber processing volume will exceed 60 million tons, accounting for more than 50% of the world’s total fiber processing volume; chemical fiber output will be 67.09 million tons, accounting for more than 70% of the world’s total; textiles and clothing exportsA total of US$315.5 billion, accounting for more than one-third of global textile and apparel exports. Since 2012, the industry’s cumulative foreign investment has exceeded US$11 billion, effectively driving the development of Southeast Asia, Africa and other regions.
The development of the textile industry is of great significance to the steady advancement of Chinese-style modernization. It is the ballast stone for people’s livelihood, a leading industry for regional economic development, and an important force that embodies the certainty of international cooperation in an uncertain international environment.
2. External environmental challenges faced in the new period of turbulent change
