·Explore quality balance of MDI, TDI, TPU and other functional materials in the field of sports shoes and low-carbon solutions

·Each concept running shoe can reduce carbon emissions by more than 80% and is planned to be launched next year

At the 5th China InternationalImportExpo, Covestro signed a letter of intent to cooperate with sports brand leader Xtep and its strategic partner Silan Group to jointly explore quality balance system products Innovation and upgrade in the field of low-carbonenvironmental protection concept running shoes. The innovative low-carbon and environmentally friendly concept running shoes are made from Covestro’s Desmodur CQ (Desmodur) brand MDI and TDI – both of which are key polyurethane precursor products – certified by the ISCC PLUS quality balance system, as well as Desmopan CQ (Desmopan CQ). Mold class) brand thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) made. Compared with products produced using traditional petrochemical materials, each shoe can reduce carbon emissions by more than 80%. The low-carbon and environmentally friendly concept running shoes will gradually be mass-produced and launched in 2023; Xtep also plans to apply Covestro’s mass-balanced materials to more categories and products in 2024.

In the mass balance approach, bio-based or recycled raw materials are introduced early in the product production stage and are eventually allocated to corresponding downstream products to help customers reduce product carbon emissions. Mass-balanced products have the same qualities as fossil-based products, so customers do not need to change existing production processes and equipment.

At the signing ceremony, Dou Zheng, Vice President of MDI Sales in the Asia-Pacific Region of Covestro’s Functional Materials Division, said: “Polyurethane materials such as mass-balanced MDI, TDI, and TPU have broad prospects, and Covestro is committed to working with partners in all aspects of the industry chain.
