Tongliang, Chongqing: Expert guidance enters the silkworm house to help silkworm farmers harvest in the autumn
On the morning of October 8, autumn rain fell one after another. At about 9 a.m., at the home of farmer Wang Zhirong in Shixin Village, Damiao Town, Tongliang District, Chongqing, Tian Shiming, Jiang Faqiang, and Li Shuquan, experts from the District Veterans Science and Technology Association, were checking the silkworm breeding situation in late autumn.
Shixin Village is a large sericulture village in Tongliang. The mountains and slopes are covered with green mulberry trees. The figures of villagers picking mulberry leaves flash in the mulberry forest.
The labor-saving silkworm table in Wang Zhirong’s home is densely covered with chubby silkworms. The owner is spreading mulberry leaves evenly on the silkworm table.
Tian Shiming and other sericulture experts carefully inspected the growth of silkworms while instructing them on scientific breeding methods.
“Now in late autumn, silkworms have entered their 4th dormancy period and are feeding heavily. It has rained continuously in the past few days. The mulberry leaves collected from the slope must be dried before being fed to the silkworms. At the same time, quicklime must be spread to sterilize and drain away moisture to ensure the silkworms’ health. Normal growth.” Tian Shiming and his party corrected the inappropriate points of the peasant women raising silkworms and explained the principles in detail.
Wang Zhirong has raised 1.5 late-autumn silkworms this year and has to wait more than 10 days before he can collect the cocoons and sell them for money. Wang Zhirong said: “Nowadays, fresh cocoons sell for more than 40 yuan per kilogram, and the income from raising one silkworm is about 2,500 yuan, which is very profitable.”
Sanpin Village in Damiao Town is the core village for the development of sericulture in Damiao Town. It is also a village jointly built by the Tongliang Old Science and Technology Association and the village committee for sericulture development. In order to help farmers raise silkworms in late autumn and increase their income for one season, the District Veterans Association for Science and Technology arranged for experts to come and provide guidance at every opportunity, provide suggestions for farmers to increase their income, and publicize the prospects of the sericulture industry and policies for the development of the agricultural industry.
In the main room of Hu Rong’s family, a farmer in the 12th commune of Sanpin Village, some silkworms grew unevenly in late autumn. Experts from the Old Association of Science and Technology found out the reasons through observation, hearing and asking, and prescribed appropriate medicines.
That morning, hearing that sericulture experts came to the village, many sericulture farmers in Sanpin Village rushed to invite experts from the old Association of Science and Technology to their homes to check their pulse and consult on problems in silkworm breeding in late autumn.
“The mulberry leaves collected and brought back to the house should not be stacked too thickly. If they are stacked too thickly, they will easily generate heat. The silkworms will easily get sick after eating. They should be dried in thin layers and turned up and down. When picking leaves, do not pick old leaves or leaves with diseased insects. Young leaves rich in nutrients should be collected, which is conducive to the healthy growth of silkworms; dead silkworms must be removed promptly to prevent the infection of mildew and rotting bacteria.” Experts provide timely advice on the problems found.
Li Yifang, an expert in sericulture in Shixin Village and a national model worker, raised 5 late-autumn silkworms in autumn. Including the first three seasons, the number of silkworms raised throughout the year reached more than 50. On the same day, she also went to farmers’ homes with experts to guide farmers on scientific silkworm rearing.
“This year’s persistent high temperature weather has had a certain impact on the normal growth of mulberry trees. Sericulture experts went into the mulberry forest to guide silkworm farmers to strengthen post-autumn management of mulberry trees, and gave farmers step-by-step guidance on scientific pruning, laying the foundation for high and stable sericulture production next year.
Hou He, secretary of the Party branch of Sanpin Village, was deeply moved by the sericulture experts’ guidance in the village. The climate changes greatly during the silkworm breeding period in late autumn. At this critical time, the District Old Science and Technology Association sent technology to the village to continue the content of village cooperation. . With the continued support of the District Old Science and Technology Association, the sericulture in Sanpin Village will get better and better.
