Anhui: Cotton farmers begin harvesting and output is expected to decline
In early September, the Anhui Regional Monitoring Station of the National Cotton Market Monitoring System conducted a survey on cotton growth conditions in various regions. The specific situation is as follows:
Anqing: As of August 30, the high temperature weather in the cotton area of Anqing, Anhui Province has improved, with the maximum temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, a drop of about 10 degrees Celsius from last week. The continued sunny weather has accelerated cotton boll spinning.
Local cotton farmers said that the current main work is to pick new cotton that has been spun out. Judging from the quality of the seed cotton currently being picked, it is significantly better than last year. Not only is the moisture content of the seed cotton low, but it is also white in color, and there is no gray cotton or stiff cotton at the beginning of last year.
The person in charge of a local ginning factory said that this year’s dry weather has limited the development of cotton fibers, resulting in shorter fibers and higher horse value. After investigation, there are currently no ginners in Wangjiang, Susong and other major cotton-producing areas that have opened scales to purchase new cotton. Only a few cotton brokers and purchase points purchase sporadically.
Wuwei: Due to the unfavorable weather, there were more dry weather this summer, which led to a decrease in cotton production. The production reduction is expected to be 25-30%. Judging from the picking of seed cotton, the grade is around the fourth grade of white cotton, but the length is less than 28 mm and the clothing content is less than 38%.
Local cotton farmers said that cotton is currently divided into three categories. The first category is well-managed cotton fields. Farmers are drought-resistant and have timely control of pests and diseases. The expected output is about 500 kilograms per mu. This type of cotton fields accounts for 40%. ; The second category is cotton fields with poor drought resistance conditions. Although the cotton plant height is about 1.3 meters, the peach-growing rate is not high and the flower buds are few. The expected output is around 400 kilograms/mu. This type of cotton fields accounts for 40%; The third category is cotton grown in marginal plots. Cotton farmers have less management of this type of cotton. The bolls are small, few, and shriveled. The yield is only about 240 kilograms/mu, accounting for 20%.
It is understood that the emergence of Typhoon “Ma’an” brought rainfall to the local area. As long as the weather returns to normal in the later period, cotton production can still be further increased. The specific increase will not be revealed until the end of picking.
Dongzhi: Affected by the high temperature and rainless weather in July and August, drought conditions occurred in many local cotton fields, causing some cotton to die. The expected yield per mu is 300 kilograms/mu, which is 200 kilograms/mu lower than the previous expectation. At present, cotton has entered the fluffing period, and cotton farmers are working hard to harvest new cotton. Cotton is mostly grown in small plots in the local area, and cotton farmers have a planting area of 2-30 acres.
At present, local cotton merchants and cotton companies have not yet started purchasing. As the launch of new cotton is approaching, some companies’ workshop maintenance work has been completed, and they must pay close attention to withdrawing funds to ensure the normal operation of the cotton launch.
