The First Division of the Xinjiang Corps succeeded in picking long-staple cotton by machine
On November 14, a cotton picking machine galloped in the long-staple cotton field of Xinjiang 359 Agricultural Development Co., Ltd., the first division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps. On that day, this modified cotton picking machine successfully picked 400 acres of cotton, with a net picking rate of over 93%. Cotton farmer Yuan Longrong gave a thumbs up happily and expressed satisfaction with the picking results.
Qin Min, the company’s deputy general manager, introduced in the cotton field that this year the company will trial plant 3,000 acres of long-staple cotton. The picking cost of long-staple cotton per mu is 180 yuan, which is the same as that of upland cotton. The subsidy for long-staple cotton is 1.4 times that of upland cotton.
In order to achieve the purpose of machine picking long-staple cotton, this company introduced long-staple cotton varieties suitable for machine picking from the Cotton Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. The first height of the new variety of long-staple cotton, the average height of the branches from the ground reaches 18 cm, which meets the minimum requirements for mechanical cotton picking. The First Division of the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps has a long history of growing long-staple cotton. It has the only long-staple cotton breeding center in the country and has unique advantages in growing long-staple cotton.
