Manas, Xinjiang: Overhaul cotton picking machines to welcome the harvest season

This year, the 760,000 acres of cotton planted in Manas County, Xinjiang are growing well and a bumper harvest is expected. In order to ensure that cotton wadding is returned to the warehouse in autumn, Manas County made early arrangements to conduct a comprehensive overhaul of 219 cotton picking machines and supporting agricultural machinery in the county, so as to achieve both epidemic prevention and agricultural production.

In the past two days, members of the Xinjiang Tianxinhe Agricultural Machinery Professional Cooperative in Lanzhouwan Town are inspecting, maintaining and dusting the cotton picking machines, laying the foundation for this year’s cotton mechanical harvesting work.

Xiao Chengfu, president of Xinjiang Tianxinhe Agricultural Machinery Professional Cooperative in Lanzhouwan Town, said: “Our cooperative has 3 cotton pickers and 5 high-horsepower machines. Every year, our agricultural machinery cooperative serves more than 30,000 acres of cultivated land. Annual farming services The income is more than 1.6 million yuan. Now the tractors and cotton pickers have been overhauled. According to this year’s weather and cotton growth, it is expected that cotton can be picked around mid-September.”

While doing routine maintenance, Manas County has also sent agricultural machinery technicians to various towns and villages for on-site guidance, striving to optimize the performance of cotton pickers, minimize the failure rate, and ensure the safety of cotton harvesting in autumn.

Wang Xiaoyan, a cadre of the Manas County Agriculture and Animal Husbandry Mechanization Technology Promotion Station, said: “Manas County currently has 219 cotton picking machines. In 2021, the county’s mechanized cotton harvest rate will reach 100%, and the comprehensive mechanization level of cotton farming and harvesting will exceed 98 %, the cotton planting area in Manas County will reach 762,900 acres in 2022. As of now, more than 200 cotton picking machines in the county have completed maintenance, and it is expected that full harvesting will begin at the end of September.”

Manas County is a national-level high-quality commercial cotton production base, with an annual output of 140,000 tons of lint cotton. This year, Manas County has carried out cotton supply-side reforms focusing on reducing costs and improving quality, and has guided large agricultural machinery companies to establish professional agricultural machinery service cooperatives and agricultural machinery service alliances. Through “full-process mechanization + comprehensive Agricultural Services” allows more cotton farmers to enjoy the convenience brought by agricultural mechanization. At present, the number of agricultural machinery in Manas County has reached 12,000 units, the total power of agricultural machinery has reached 446,000 kilowatt-hours, and the entire production process of major crops has been mechanized.
