Jinghe: Cotton splinters sporadicly and the cost of cotton planting is higher than last year

In late August, Xinjiang cotton gradually entered the period of fluffing. In order to understand the local new cotton growth situation, reporters from China Cotton Network conducted a survey in the Jinghe area of Xinjiang.

A cotton farmer in Jinghe, Xinjiang, said that he planted more than 600 acres of cotton this year (all contracted land), which is basically the same as last year. Local cotton has sprung out spores and is growing faster than the same period last year. It is expected that harvesting will begin in late September. At present, the peach rate of cotton with good growth is 10-12 per plant, and the peach rate of cotton with poor growth is 5-6 per plant.

Last year, the area was affected by bad weather such as low temperature and hail, which affected cotton production to a certain extent. The cotton farmer told reporters that last year’s cotton output was about 400 kilograms/mu, and the average price of seed cotton was 10.7 yuan/kg. Excluding the cotton planting cost of 2,300 yuan/mu (including planting, fertilizer, land rent, water fees, etc.), the cotton farmer’s income was 1980 yuan/acre. Although there are more favorable weather conditions this year, insect pests and drought in cotton fields are more severe than last year. In order to prevent cotton yield reduction due to drought and insect pests, the cotton farmer sprayed pesticides and watered the crops in a timely manner.

Affected by the increase in land rent and chemical fertilizer prices, cotton farmers’ cotton planting costs have generally increased this year. It is understood that the cost of cotton planting by local cotton farmers this year is generally around 3,500 yuan/mu, while the cost of cotton planting by this farmer is 3,300 yuan/mu, which is 1,000 yuan/mu higher than last year. The cotton farmer signed a three-year land contract in the early stage, so the land rent cost is lower than other farmers.

About this year’s production and income. The cotton farmer speculated that based on this year’s output of 400 kg/mu and the purchase price of 10 yuan/kg, the cotton farmer’s income will be 4,000 yuan/mu. After excluding the cotton planting cost of 3,300 yuan/mu, this year’s income will be around 700 yuan/mu, which is higher than last year. Reduced by 1,280 yuan/acre.

In addition, as the launch of new cotton approaches, the maintenance work of local ginneries is also proceeding in an orderly manner. Some companies with higher profits last year have replaced new machinery and equipment in order to better purchase seed cotton.
