Shengze Present Continuous: Create a world-class textile industry cluster climate action demonstration zone
On August 17, the Shengze Textile and Garment Enterprise Climate Training Camp was successfully held at the Shengze Administrative Service Center. The training camp is guided by the Social Responsibility Office of the ChinaTextile Industry Federation and hosted by the China Textile Information Center and Shengze Economic Development and Reform Bureau. More than 50 business representatives from 41 key enterprises in the seven major segments of Shengze’s textile and apparel industry participated in this training camp (the list of enterprises is attached at the end of the article).
In response to President Xi Jinping’s instructions in April 2021 on accelerating carbon peaking and carbon neutrality actions, Shengze, which has a complete industrial ecology from raw materials to terminal brands, actively responded to China’s 30·60 dual carbon goals and officially launched the Shengze Fashion Week and the 9th Jiangsu (Shengze) Textile Expo cloud exhibition opening ceremony on June 16, 2021. The “Shengze TextileIndustrial Cluster Carbon Neutral Vision” was released, and at the same time it was announced to join the China National Textile and Apparel Council’s “Climate Innovation 2030 Action”.
On July 23, 2021, the launching meeting of the Shengze Textile Industry Climate Innovation Action Project was held. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment Li Xia, director of the Regional Cooperation Office of the Environmental Cooperation Center, Shen Chunrong, deputy director of the Wujiang District People’s Government, secretary of the Party Working Committee of Wujiang High-tech Zone, and secretary of the Party Committee of Shengze Town, Qiao Yanjin, director of the China Textile Information Center, and Yan, director of the Social Responsibility Office of the China Textile Industry Federation. Yan and others attended the kick-off meeting. The kick-off meeting also invited Sun Yizheng, standing member of the Climate Finance Committee of the Chinese Society of Environmental Sciences, Zhao Lijian, general manager of Carbon Trust China, and Chen Yanwei, senior manager of sustainable development of HSBC China, to discuss climate, finance and other perspectives. The way forward is to build Shengze into a national industrial demonstration zone that explores carbon peaks and carbon neutrality. Since the Shengze regional industrial carbon peak, carbon neutral baseline and roadmap planning work was carried out, the carbon emission data of more than 60 typical Shengze enterprises have been investigated in detail, and the first draft of the “Shengze Textile Cluster Dual Carbon Strategic Plan” has been formed.
This climate training camp is aimed at key enterprises in Shengze and focuses on improving corporate climate change expertise and climate innovation Action capabilities are deployed to support the formulation of dual-carbon planning for the Shengze Textile Industry Cluster. At the beginning of the training camp, Chen Mingyuan, deputy director of the Shengze Economic Development and Reform Bureau, delivered a speech, introducing the background and work plan of Shengze’s textile industry climate innovation actions. Lecturers from the China Textile Information Center conducted training on the topics of “Climate Action Progress and Industrial Cluster Practice in China’s Textile and Apparel Industry”, “Strategies, Paths and Pioneer Practices of Enterprise Dual-Carbon Action” and carbon emission data collection.
All corporate representatives collectively wear the “Zero Carbon Master-Climate PractitionerMask” expressed the company’s determination to take climate action, and actively asked questions about the implementation of follow-up work during the interactive communication session, striving to promote the Shengze textile industry as a pioneer in global climate governance and China’s carbon neutrality process.
