Hui County, Gansu: Sericulture “weaves” a road to wealth
In midsummer in July, the author walked into the Xingnong Silkworm Farmers’ Professional Cooperative in Yanzhuang Village, Luchuan Town, Hui County, Gansu Province. Looking around, the continuous mulberry trees undulated with the wind, and the silkworm farmers shuttled among them to pick fresh mulberry leaves. In the large and small silkworm houses, the sound of silkworms eating mulberry leaves can be heard endlessly…
“Although the mulberry tree looks inconspicuous, it is full of treasures. The leaves can be fed to silkworms, the fruits can be used to make wine, and the mulberry branches are Chinese medicinal materials.” said Wan Quanli, head of the Xingnong Silkworm Farmers’ Professional Cooperative in Huixian County.
Since the establishment of the cooperative, under the technical guidance and support of the county sericulture station, it has scientifically planned and adapted measures to local conditions, through standardized park industrial base construction, efficient three-dimensional model promotion, new productsPromote development, agricultural product trademark registration, and “three products and one standard” certification to continuously develop and expand the sericulture industry that is “short in time and quick to produce results”. It has developed and registered 4 trademarks “Xinnong, Mupiling, Xianta, Jincanyumulberry”, applied for 18 outsourcing patents for sericulture series products, 6 technology patents, applied for 2 “green food” A-level certifications, and developed Mulberry leaf tea, bagged mulberry mushroom, silkworm sand health pillow, silk quilt, mulberry health wine and other series of products are favored by the market.
In recent years, Hui County has continuously explored the development model of “company + cooperative + farmer”, developed mulberry branch fungi, interplanted Chinese medicinal materials in mulberry orchards, and expanded the county’s contiguous planting area of mulberry trees. At present, the county has cultivated a total of 2,070 acres of high-yielding densely planted mulberry gardens, built 23 high-standard silkworm sheds, and raised 1,050 silkworms. It is expected to produce 40,000 kilograms of high-quality fresh cocoons and achieve an income of 2.3 million yuan.
