Inner Mongolia’s largest tussah seed industry base: 1.3 billion tussah “babies” go up the mountain to “cash”
“In the past two days, we have started to go up the mountain to produce silkworms. Although it is hard work, the cycle is short, the income is high, and the efficiency is good. It is a good helper for us to get rich. The rain this year is good, and we can have a good harvest.” In the past few days, Jiang Wei, a silkworm farmer in Songtagou Village, Arong Banner, Hulunbuir City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is busy collecting ants and bringing them up the mountain every day.
Arong Banner is the largest tussah cocoon production base, the largest tussah cocoon distribution center, and the largest tussah seed production base in Inner Mongolia. It has decades of tussah silkworm breeding history, and the local silkworm cocoonsQuality font>Good quality, good yield, and good benefits. The high yield and harvest of tussah silkworms have put local silkworm farmers on the “fast track” to wealth.
Jiang Wei planted 120 acres of tussah silkworms this year. In order to avoid losses caused by the ants and silkworms clumping together after the eggs were released, Jiang Wei and his wife simply lived in the mountains and stayed by the silkworm beds in real time.
“In this way, we can keep an eye on the emergence of ants at any time and transfer the ant silkworms to the oak trees in time, ensuring that all seedlings are captured at one time during sericulture production, so that the silkworm babies can ‘grow vigorously’ and lay a solid foundation for a high yield and harvest in the sericulture industry.” Jiang Wei said .
The reporter learned that most of the villagers in Songtagou Village release silkworms. The villagers have their own silkworm farms. Because the release cycle is short and the income is high, the villagers are very motivated. The farmers’ income can increase by about 60,000 yuan. Sericulture has become an important pillar industry in the village.
The harvesting of ants by tussah silkworms into the mountains is an important part of sericulture production. Since May, silkworm farmer Huo Yunfeng and his family have been making preparations. From wearing cocoons to hanging strings, they are always watching and waiting for the tussah silkworms to emerge from their cocoons and become butterflies.
In mid-June, silk moths struggled to break free from the shackles of the cocoon shell, completing the perfect transformation into butterflies, and a large number of silk moths broke out of their cocoons. Huo Yunfeng selected the silkworm moths according to male and female, put them in silkworm baskets, and let them complete the mating and production process. Then part of the female moth’s wings and legs are clipped and placed on the egg bed to wait for egg laying.
“The moth eggs are disinfected and cleaned before entering the silkworm farm. After a day of incubation, small black ant silkworms emerge from their shells.” Huo Yunfeng said.
Arong Banner, which ranks first in the country in terms of tussah production per unit area and the income of silkworm farmers, basically all of the 1.3 billion “baby” tussah silkworms raised by silkworm farmers this year have collected ants and gone up the mountain.
“Rearing silkworms is more profitable than farming. It only takes two months. Tens of thousands of ant silkworms have already begun to climb the mountains. Our good life depends on them.” Silkworm farmer Xu Guihua’s family has been raising tussah silkworms for more than 20 years. The family’s silkworm farm of more than 130 acres can bring in an average income of 60,000 yuan every year.
Silkworm farmer Wang Yanping’s family has been herding silkworms for more than ten years. The local sericulture industry is developing very well. In addition to quality, output and price, what reassures her most is that she has no worries about sales. “In the past, I was afraid that no one would take the silkworms when I let them out, but now merchants are coming to my house to grab the goods.” Wang Yanping said.
In recent years, Arong Banner has regarded the tussah industry as a green development industry to enrich the people. It uses silkworms to raise forests and forests to promote silkworms, guiding silkworm farmers to develop in protection and get rich in development, achieving a “double harvest” of ecological benefits. ”, local sericulture construction has gradually become a characteristic industry that effectively connects the achievements of poverty alleviation with rural revitalization.
According to Li Zhi, director of the Arong Banner Sericulture Technology Promotion Center, Arong Banner has introduced and promoted advanced tussah technology, new varieties and scientific and technological achievements, strengthened tussah seed breeding and germplasm testing, strengthened quarantine and pest and disease forecasting, prevention and other measures to provide Sericulture Development provides full technical services to ensure the sustainable development of sericulture.
This year, Arong Banner has released 4,016 tussah silkworms. It is expected to produce 6 million kilograms of commercial tussah cocoons and 100,000 kilograms of silkworm seeds, equivalent to approximately 1.32 billion tussahs. The comprehensive output value of the sericulture industry can reach 230 million yuan.
