Pakistan delays imports of Indian cotton
According to foreign reports, Pakistan recently announced a delay in importing cotton from India. According to the requirements of the country’s Ministry of Plant Protection, the import period for Indian cotton is from January 1 to March 31, 2018. Imports of cotton from India by land and sea will be prohibited before January 1, 2018.
Pakistan had previously announced that it would allow imports of Indian cotton from the last week of November. However, due to the cumbersome approval process of the Ministry of Plant Protection, delayed import deadlines, and lower-than-expected Indian cotton production, as time goes by, the possibility of Pakistan importing large quantities of Indian cotton begins to decrease.
There are reports that both parties have canceled some contracts. Industry insiders in Pakistan said that with the decline in the exchange rate of the Pakistani rupee, the price of Indian cotton imports is rising, which is very detrimental to the domestic textile industry and importers.
