Is there a time of year when it’s inappropriate to wear a shirt? Wear it as a layer in winter, as a stand-alone piece in spring and autumn, and as a jacket in summer. A common basic shirt that can be easily worn out on the street.
But I buy shirts every year, how can I buy them? How about a perfect shirt that suits you?
The conventional criteria for choosing a shirt are nothing more than: consider the budget level, the occasion of use or the style you like. But in fact, another idea when choosing shirts is to distinguish them based on seasonality. Choosing according to the different physical requirements of the four seasons of the year can avoid mistakes to a certain extent.
Last time we talked about how to wear a shirt differently from others, and shared the two major factors that affect the style of a shirt – collar type and cuffs.

So today’s shirt selection guide mainly focuses on the other two elements that determine the “shirt wearing occasion and season”.
1. Fabric
Almost all Fabrics made of fiber or chemical fibers can be used to make shirts, but tradition and history have given this important task to three of them: cotton, linen and silk.
Shirts made of different materials look and feel different, and the temperament behind the upper body and back is also completely different.

Cotton is the first choice for close-fitting clothing and an ideal fabric for shirts, which can be worn all year round. . Cotton can be divided into many types according to different weaving methods. However, the most commonly used ones are poplin and Oxford.
▶ Poplin
Poplin is the most common shirt fabric. It has a smooth and flat surface and looks full of style.
The advantage of poplin is that it is elegant. A solid-color poplin shirt does not have any sense of decoration and is suitable for formal occasions. It is quite safe to wear and cannot go wrong, so it is also the representative of formal shirts.
But because it does not have any fabric texture and is relatively thin, white shirts tend to reveal spots.
▶Oxford spinning
Oxford spinning is the most common casual shirt fabric, which is comfortable, breathable, wear-resistant and durable.
It feels hard and thick, with obvious graininess and two-color effect. The surface looks rough, with a texture similar to the surface of a woven basket. .
However, Oxford fabrics are also used in formal wear. For example, fine Oxford fabrics are used in ready-to-wear, no-iron shirts, which can be both formal and casual.
Fine Oxford spinning retains the two-color effect of classic Oxford spinning, and the color is still rich in layers. However, its roughness is weaker, and when worn as an inner layer, it is softer and more comfortable than the classic oxford fabric, and its texture is also lighter and thinner. It can basically meet the wearing needs of various seasons and occasions.

Compared with stripes, the square structure of plaid makes it look more “steady”, so some people say “Wear stripes in summer and plaid in winter.” ”
But in fact, plaid also has a very light summer color, and it is as agile and dynamic as stripes.
Some people say retro, many people say old-fashioned houndstooth, and there is also a youthful and beautiful new way to open it:
Have you noticed that for classic plaid elements, what others see “Old-fashioned and unsophisticated” is actually more of a misunderstanding caused by excessive looseness and wrinkles.
As long as it fits well and is clean, plaid is actually very versatile and attractive.

I’ve heard people say more than once that I can’t wear a shirt because I have a short neck/fat body/unmatched style. . In fact, it’s not that I can’t wear it, it’s that I took a detour in choosing shirts and couldn’t find a style that I like and suits me.
