Recently, the US state of Michigan filed a lawsuit against 17 defendants over PFAS contamination, accusing these companies of “intentionally” covering up the dangers of the chemical. U.S. Attorney General Nasser announced on the afternoon of January 14 that the state would take corresponding legal sanctions against manufacturers such as 3M and DuPont for the first time, requiring the defendant companies to take effective measures to reduce the damage caused by “fluorinated chemicals” to the public. The accusation was also supported by Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the head of the Environmental Energy Agency (EGLE).
These accusations mainly include: chemical companies deliberately concealed scientific evidence and sold, transported, and supplied unscrupulously , disposal and use of PFAS, wreaking havoc on Michigan’s environment.
In response to the allegations, a DuPont spokesperson said they were extremely disappointed with the attorney general’s ruling. DuPont does not manufacture PFOA, PFOS or GenX. Additionally, DuPont has never manufactured or sold firefighting foam. The other PFOS used by DuPont account for only a small portion of the global PFOS. And DuPont is actively seeking alternatives to PFAS. ”
