Recently, Brand Finance, a well-known British brand evaluation agency, released the top 25 most valuable chemical brands in 2020. BASF of Germany, Dow of the United States, and Saudi Arabian Basic Industries ranked the top three. China’s Rongsheng Petrochemical ranked 18th.
This year, Brand Finance expanded the ranking list from the top 10 to the top 25 for the first time. Although due to the general slowdown in economic growth in the chemical industry, BASF’s brand valuation dropped to US$7.9 billion, still ranking second. Dow’s is more than 3 billion US dollars higher, defending its title as the world’s most valuable chemical brand, easily ranking first.
Brand Finance said that there are two reasons why BASF ranks first : On the one hand, it is due to the closer relationship with customers, enhanced competitiveness and profit growth, and on the other hand, due to the weakening of competitors, Dow and DuPont were separated after reorganization last year.
The merger and spin-off of Dow and DuPont caused the value of the two major brands to fall by 29% to US$4.8 billion and 33% to US$2.2 billion respectively, becoming the largest decliners in 2020. Two fast brands.
Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC), the Saudi Arabian petrochemical giant (valued at US$4.3 billion), still occupies the third place, with its brand value increasing by 9%, becoming the fastest growing brand among the top 10. Over the past year, SABIC has been a shining star in the chemicals industry, making significant investments across its operating regions, putting corporate social responsibility at the core of its brand, and paving the way for sustainable innovation .
Linde ranks high among the top 25, jumping to fifth place with a brand value of US$2.9 billion. The brand’s rise can be attributed to Linde’s decision to remain Linde following its merger with US air giant Praxair, which allowed the brand to expand into new areas as it was not previously well-known in the US. Linde also expanded its operations in Shanghai and built a new air separation plant to provide nitrogen, oxygen and argon, thereby increasing brand awareness in Asia.
This year, Chinese chemical companies entered the ranking of the world’s most valuable chemical brands for the first time. Rongsheng Petrochemical ranks 18th with a brand value of US$1.4 billion. Rongsheng’s solid performance has been driven by China’s increasing investment in the chemical industry and is likely to strengthen further in the coming years as crude oil imports from the region increase.
The total value of the top 25 brands on the list is US$56.2 billion. Among them, there are 6 brands from the United States, 4 brands each from Germany and Japan, 3 brands from the Netherlands, 2 brands from the UK, and 1 brand each from Saudi Arabia, South Korea, France, Canada, China and Thailand. </p
