Pure cotton cloth is relative to blended fabrics such as polyester and cotton. Pure cotton cloth generally refers to cloth woven from cotton as raw material. It is a fabric woven from cotton yarn or cotton and cotton-type chemical fiber blended yarn, with a cotton content of more than 70%.
According to the different positions in the cotton manufacturing process, pure cotton cloth can be divided into two categories: pure cotton gray cloth and pure cotton printed and dyed cloth. Pure cotton fabric refers to the fabric made from cotton fiber through textile processing without dyeing and finishing. Gray fabrics can be divided into rough fabrics and smooth fabrics. The rough fabrics refer to the gray fabrics that have not been bleached and dyed after coming off the loom, while the smooth fabrics refer to the gray fabrics that have been bleached and dyed. Pure cotton printed and dyed fabric refers to the cloth formed by printing and dyeing of pure cotton embryonic fabric. According to different printing and dyeing methods, it can be divided into pure cotton dyed fabrics, pure cotton yarn-dyed fabrics, pure cotton printed fabrics and other cloth printed and dyed fabrics.
Classification of pure cotton cloth
2. Pure cotton Development status of the cloth industry
According to data from the China Cotton Textile Industry Association, although China’s pure cotton output fluctuated slightly from 2014 to 2017, it remained stable overall. By 2018, China’s pure cotton cloth production declined rapidly, from 39.18 billion meters to 26.2 billion meters, with output falling by 33.1%. In 2019, my country’s pure cotton cloth output was 21.92 billion meters, and the decline has slowed down. In 2020, due to the impact of the epidemic, China’s pure cotton cloth production continued to decline at an accelerated pace. From January to September, my country’s pure cotton cloth production was 13.08 billion meters, a year-on-year decrease of 25.3%.
From the perspective of imports, my country’s pure cotton cloth imports in 2014 were 528.3 million meters, and in 2019 my country’s pure cotton cloth imports were 211.86 million meters. , the overall import volume from 2014 to 2019 showed a downward trend, with an average annual compound growth rate of -16.7%.
On the one hand, the decline in import volume is due to the development of my country’s textile industry, and the quality and quantity of pure cotton cloth have been greatly improved; on the other hand, it is due to the decline in my country’s demand for pure cotton cloth. Due to the impact of the epidemic in 2020, my country’s pure cotton cloth imports from January to July were only 78.97 million meters, a year-on-year decrease of 39.6%.

From the perspective of exports, China’s pure cotton cloth export volume generally showed an upward trend from 2014 to 2017. The export volume of pure cotton cloth increased from 6,885,940,000 meters in 2014 to 7,216,590,000 meters in 2017. Mainly because my country’s manufacturing industry is developed and its labor costs are lower than those in developed countries, it has a great competitive advantage in the international market. Since 2018, my country’s pure cotton exports have been declining year by year. This is mainly due to the tightening of environmental protection policies, which has caused many factories to close due to substandard sewage emissions. The decline in output has caused exports to also show a downward trend.
3. Import and export analysis of subdivided industries
my country’s pure cotton embryos from 2014 to 2019 The import volume of cloth and pure cotton printing and dyeing fabrics has shown an overall downward trend, and pure cotton gray fabrics account for the majority of imported products. As the import volume of pure cotton gray cloth and pure cotton printing and dyeing cloth declines, the decline of pure cotton gray cloth is greater than that of pure cotton printing and dyeing cloth. The shares of the two are gradually approaching. By 2017, my country’s import volume of pure cotton printing and dyeing cloth will be greater than that of pure cotton. However, by 2018, the import volume of pure cotton gray cloth will once again exceed that of pure cotton printing and dyeing cloth. The import volume of pure cotton gray fabrics is larger than that of pure cotton printed and dyed fabrics mainly because my country’s textile industry is developed and the demand for raw materials is greater than the demand for products.
Due to the developed textile industry in our country, the cost of processing pure cotton gray cloth into pure cotton printing and dyeing fabrics is relatively low, and pure cotton printing and dyeing fabrics are in The competitiveness and profits in the international market are higher than those of pure cotton fabrics. Therefore, my country’s pure cotton fabric exports are mainly pure cotton printed and dyed fabrics. By 2019, my country’s export volume of pure cotton printing and dyeing fabrics was 5,402.97 million meters, while the export volume of pure cotton gray fabrics was only 767.4 million meters, only one-seventh of the export volume of pure cotton printing and dyeing fabrics.
Four. Technical analysis of cotton industry
According to Qichacha data, 2011-2019 Invention patents in China’s cotton industry have shown an overall upward trend in 2011, from 3 invention patents in 2011 to the highest number of 80 invention patents in 2018, an increase of nearly 29 times. This proves that the technology of China’s cotton industry has developed rapidly and that China’s cotton industry has Beginning to move from the low-end manufacturing field to the high-end R&D field, from focusing only on quantity to focusing on both quantity and quality.
