01 Domestic sales of silk products decreased
After four consecutive years of growth, domestic sales of silk products declined in 2019. According to monitoring by the Ministry of Commerce, the domestic sales of 50 silk sample companies across the country in 2019 were 3.594 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 12.4%.
In terms of categories, domestic sales of home textile products were 1.491 billion yuan, a year-on-year decrease of 9.8%, accounting for 41.5% of domestic sales, an increase of 1.2 percentage points from the previous year; domestic sales of apparel products were 316 million yuan. , a significant year-on-year decrease of 41%, accounting for a decrease of 4.3 percentage points;

02 Silk commodity exports fell
The export volume of silk commodities in 2019 dropped significantly from the previous year, reaching the lowest point in recent years. According to China Customs statistics, the export volume of silk products in 2019 was US$2.169 billion, a year-on-year decrease of 26.7%, a decline that expanded by 9.8 percentage points from the previous year, and a decrease of 42.2% from 2005.
From the perspective of export countries and regions, the top five markets for my country’s silk merchandise exports in 2019 were the European Union, the United States, Italy, India and Hong Kong, China, accounting for 61.6% of my country’s total silk merchandise exports. %. Among them, exports to the United States and the European Union fell by 39.4% and 32.5% respectively, and their proportion decreased by 3.1 and 2.1 percentage points respectively compared with the previous year.
In addition, exports to Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates increased rapidly, with growth rates of 654.8%, 125.2%, and 33.9% respectively, and their proportions increased by 4.2, 4.3, and 2.4 percentage points respectively.
From the perspective of export sources, the top five provinces (cities) in export volume of silk products in 2019 were Zhejiang, Guangdong, Jiangsu, Shanghai and Shandong. In terms of export trade methods, general trade accounted for the highest proportion of exports, accounting for 73.8%, an increase of 10.1 percentage points from the previous year. From the perspective of growth rate, the export volume of other trade modes, inbound and outbound goods in bonded warehouses, and re-export goods stored in bonded zones has declined significantly year-on-year.
