Epidemic prevention textiles are an important category of medical and sanitary textiles in the field of industrial textiles, mainly including masks, protective clothing and disinfectant wipes (this article specifically refers to masks and protective clothing). In just one year, my country’s anti-epidemic textile industry has undergone tremendous changes. my country has taken the lead in fully resuming work and production, playing the role of the largest supplier of anti-epidemic materials. The production capacity and output of related products have increased dozens or even hundreds of times in one year. It has also greatly promoted the export of textile and clothing products. According to public data: from March 2020 to the end of last year, the country exported a total of 224.2 billion masks, worth 340 billion yuan, including 65 billion medical masks, and exported 2.31 billion protective clothing, including 773 million medical protective clothing.

Under the new situation of violent fluctuations in the epidemic prevention textile industry, in order to further understand the development status of epidemic prevention textiles and form industry suggestions for optimizing industrial development, China Industry will be held from January 6 to 11, 2021 The Textile Industry Association conducted a questionnaire survey on “Recommendations on the Optimization and Development of the Epidemic Prevention Textile Industry” for companies related to key epidemic prevention materials such as masks, protective clothing, raw materials and auxiliary materials. As of January 11, 2021, a total of 176 valid questionnaires have been received. The detailed analysis is as follows.

Basic situation and analysis of the questionnaire

(1) Basic situation of the enterprise

Basic situation of enterprises: The surveyed enterprises come from 22 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. As shown in Figure 1, the top five are: 43 companies in Jiangsu (24%), 26 companies in Guangdong (14%), and 17 companies in Zhejiang ( 9%), 16 companies in Shandong (9%), and 10 companies in Fujian (5%). Their distribution is basically consistent with the domestic distribution of epidemic prevention textile companies across the country to a certain extent, and the sample data is somewhat representative.

Figure 1 National distribution of sample companies.

The sample companies surveyed include comprehensive epidemic prevention textiles, mask products, protective clothing products, spunbond spunlace nonwovens, meltblown nonwovens, other raw materials and auxiliary materials, scientific research institutions, etc. 8 types of enterprises. The total number of mask and protective clothing manufacturing companies accounts for 47%, of which 41% are related to masks and protective clothing that were operating normally before the epidemic. 79% of the enterprises in the statistics were established in 2016 or before.

(1)Enterprise type

Figure 2 Enterprise Types.

In terms of enterprise types, the sample enterprises involve the entire industrial chain of anti-epidemic textiles. As shown in Figure 2, 30% of the companies are comprehensive companies. Such companies usually produce masks/protective clothing and non-woven fabrics at the same time. 11% of companies produce masks alone, and 5% of companies produce protective clothing alone. There are 83 companies (47%) in total. Spunbond, spunlace and other nonwovens companies account for 15%, meltblown nonwovens companies account for 11%, breathable films, nonwovens equipment and components, mask machines and taping machines, mask belts, nose clips and other raw and auxiliary materials and Equipment companies account for 20%, university scientific research units account for 3%, and trade circulation companies account for 2%. Among the companies related to masks and protective clothing, 42% were existing companies that were operating normally before the epidemic, and the rest (52% in total) were companies that changed production after the epidemic related to raw materials, clothing, home textiles, sanitary products, food and other epidemic prevention textiles.

(2) Company establishment time

In terms of company establishment time, there are 14 companies in the questionnaire (8%) are newly established companies in 2020, 19 of them are companies established from 2017 to 2019, and most of them are existing companies established in 2016 and before, as shown in Figure 3. Judging from the data, there are relatively few newly established companies in 2020 that participated in the questionnaire survey.

(2) Production and operation status and expectations

The production and operation status of sample enterprises in 2020 is generally It is relatively good, and there are optimistic expectations for 2021. Most companies will maintain stable production capacity in the next three years. As shown in Figure 4, 64% of the companies in the mask and protective clothing sectors have relatively good (37%) or very good (27%) production and operation conditions in 2020, and 53% of the companies expect the production and operation conditions in 2021 to be relatively good (39%). %) or very good (14%), as shown in Figure 5. The production and operation expectations for 2021 have declined compared with 2020. In terms of investment plans, 53% of companies have chosen to maintain stable production capacity from 2021 to 2023, 20% of companies plan to increase investment in the field of anti-epidemic textiles, and only 9% of companies will gradually withdraw.

(3) Production capacity and layout

In terms of production capacity and layout, more than half of the companies believe that anti-epidemic textiles-related production capacity is excessive, and some Enterprises believe that the production capacity of high-end products is insufficient, and few believe that the industrial chain layout is reasonable or very reasonable. Generally speaking, it is believed that there is excess production capacity related to epidemic prevention textiles. The degree of excess capacity of raw materials such as spunbond nonwovens and meltblown nonwovens is higher than that of masks and protective clothing products.

60% of companies believe that the production capacity of masks and protective clothing products is insufficient.29% of companies believe that although there is excess production capacity, there is insufficient production capacity for high-end products, and only 1% believe that production capacity is insufficient. 64% of companies believe that there is excess production capacity of raw materials such as melt-blown nonwovens and spunbond nonwovens, and 28% believe that the production capacity of high-grade melt-blown nonwovens products is insufficient. Regarding the layout of the industrial chain of masks and protective clothing, only 18% of companies believe that the layout of the industrial chain of masks and protective clothing is reasonable (13%) or very reasonable (5%).

(4) Development demands

In the short term, the demands of enterprises are mainly focused on market supervision, emergency reserves, and technological upgrading. etc. In the long term, in addition to market supervision and technological upgrading, companies also have a very strong demand for cultivating incremental markets, and the demand for emergency reserves has been relatively weakened. This is obviously different from short-term demands.

The most urgent issue for the short-term healthy development of the industry, as shown in Figure 6, is to improve market supervision and supervision, establish and improve emergency reserves for epidemic prevention textiles, and improve the technical competitiveness of the industry. Among the six issues of tackling key problems, cultivating local brands, cultivating the market and digesting excess production capacity, and improving the regional layout of the industrial chain, the top three issues are: 55% of companies recommend improving market supervision and supervision, and 53% of companies recommend establishing and improving epidemic prevention. Regarding textile emergency reserves, 51% of companies suggested improving the industry’s scientific and technological competitiveness and increasing technological research in the industry.

In terms of the most effective recommended measures for the long-term healthy development of the industry, as shown in Figure 7, policy guidance and cultivation of incremental markets, guidance and encouragement of industry technology upgrades, establishment of emergency reserves of anti-epidemic textiles, Among the five measures to optimize the production layout of anti-epidemic textiles, strengthen market supervision of anti-epidemic textiles, and regulate the existing market, the top three are: 60% of companies recommend cultivating the incremental market, 44% recommend regulating the existing market, and 44% It is recommended to encourage technological upgrading of the industry.

In terms of other suggestions, the companies surveyed put forward some opinions and suggestions on guiding the green development of the industry, increasing talent cultivation, strengthening price guidance, and strengthening the construction of public service platforms.

Conclusion

After the anti-epidemic textile industry such as clothing has experienced great changes in the industry, most companies will have good production and operation conditions in 2020 , the expectations for 2021 are not pessimistic, but overcapacity and unreasonable industrial chain layout are real, and various enterprises in the industrial chain also have different demands for the future development. This survey has the following preliminary conclusions:

1. In terms of production capacity and layout, there is excess production capacity related to epidemic prevention textiles, and there is room for further optimization of the layout of domestic epidemic prevention textiles. The industrial chain is mostly concentrated in economically developed regions such as South China, East China, Beijing and Tianjin, and there are fewer underdeveloped provinces. In terms of product types, the production capacity and layout of comprehensive enterprises and product manufacturers in South China and East China are relatively concentrated, while raw materials and excipients in North and Central China are relatively concentrated. In northeastern, northwest, southwest and other provinces, due to the small number of relevant enterprises, the phenomenon of unreasonable layout may be more obvious.

2. In terms of production and operation, comprehensive enterprises generally have better production and operation conditions in 2020. Most of these enterprises were established in 2016 and before; newly established melt-blown nonwovens A large proportion of manufacturing enterprises have unsatisfactory production and operation conditions. Compared with other enterprises, the production and operation conditions of non-woven fabrics, accessories, equipment and other anti-epidemic textile-related enterprises and non-manufacturing enterprises that have switched to production of masks and protective clothing products are generally less than ideal. The production and operation conditions of various enterprises in 2020 will affect their production and operation in 2021. Production and operation expectations.

3. In terms of investment willingness, among the industrial chain enterprises, those with better production and operation in 2020 tend to increase investment, while those with unsatisfactory production and operation are more likely to increase investment. Most choose to reduce production, store capacity, or even gradually exit.

4. In terms of corporate demands, corporate demands mainly focus on market supervision, incremental market cultivation, emergency reserves, and technological improvement. Among related demands, companies in the short-term industry chain generally agree on the need to strengthen market supervision, establish emergency reserves and improve industry competitiveness. Companies in the long-term industry chain generally believe that it is necessary to strengthen market supervision, guide technology upgrades, and cultivate incremental markets. Mask and protective clothing product companies are more concerned about establishing emergency reserves of epidemic prevention textiles in various regions and optimizing the layout of the epidemic prevention textile industry than other companies.

To sum up, the current rapid development of anti-epidemic textiles such as masks and protective clothing requires attention to the problems of overcapacity and unreasonable layout. In the future, various measures need to be taken to optimize the use of anti-epidemic products. Textile industry layout, reasonable adjustment of production capacity structure, appropriate development and cultivation of incremental markets, and improvement of the overall technical competitiveness of the industry. This is of great significance for improving emergency rescue capabilities for public health emergencies, improving the level of risk resistance of the whole society, ensuring the safety of people’s lives and property, and maintaining national public health security. </p
