Archaeologists discover pre-Jeans fabric in Peru

According to Russian Satellite Network citing news on the 18th, an international research team discovered a piece of fabric that is more than 6,000 years old on the northern coast of Peru.

This piece of fabric was discovered by Dr. Jeffrey Splitstosera and an archaeological team led by George Washington University during an archaeological excavation in Preta. It is approximately 6,200 years old.

So far, the earliest cloth in the world found in Egypt is about 4,000 years old. However, it wasn’t the fabric’s age that shocked the scientists. They found ancient fabrics dyed indigo, the same dye used to produce today’s popular jeans.

So researchers joke that they have found the world’s oldest “jeans.” Analysis shows that indigo was the main component of ancient fuels. Archaeologists discover 6,200-year-old “jeans” fabric in Peru
