On May 19, Qingdao University signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Aimer to transform its industry-university-research results into a company – Qingdao YuanhaiNew Materials Technology Co., Ltd. Qingdao University has the National Key Laboratory of Biopolysaccharide Fiber Forming and Ecological Textile jointly built by the province and the ministry, 38 provincial and ministerial key laboratories, engineering research centers, collaborative innovation centers, and humanities and social science research bases. In 2018, the Qingdao University Xia Yanzhi Seaweed Fiber R&D Team took the lead in establishing a results transformation company – Qingdao Yuanhai New Materials Technology Co., Ltd. (referred to as Yuanhai New Materials), specializing in the production of seaweed fibers for textiles, with an annual output of 5,000 tons of seaweed fibers. The production line is currently the only company in the world that produces and sells seaweed fiber for textiles.

Seaweed fiber is a new type of marine bio-based fiber produced from offshore cultured kelp and deep-sea brown algae. It has excellent flame retardancy, natural antibacterial, mildew and mite prevention. The antibacterial rate can reach 99%. It can also stop bleeding and heal injuries. After nearly three years of hard work, we have overcome dozens of problems, opened up the entire industrial chain from seaweed fiber to finished underwear, and achieved more than 40 indicators of multi-functional high-end marine underwear that have all met the standards, forming an annual output of 100 Production capacity of 10,000 pieces.
