Xinjiang Aksu Region: The “upgrading” of the cotton industry is in the ascendant
Recently, a reporter from China News Service walked into the processing plant of a high-quality cotton company in Wensu County, Aksu Prefecture, Xinjiang, and saw piles of cotton purchased from cotton fields being fed into a cleaning machine and passed through the assembly line. During the processing and cleaning of several machines, the cotton seeds, fallen leaves and other debris mixed in were cleaned one by one, and the “spit” out lint was clean and white.
“Our factory has added dozens of domestic gins, cleaning machines and other machines this year. Now the daily processing capacity of seed cotton is 250 tons, and the efficiency has increased by about 30%.” said Liu Jishun, deputy manager of the processing department of the above-mentioned company.
“In addition to the purchase, processing and sales of cotton, we also carry out seed cultivation and production work.” Liu Jishun pointed to the neatly stacked bags of cotton seeds in the factory area and said, “This is a new cotton variety independently developed by the company. It has the characteristics of high yield, disease resistance and stress resistance. This year it is planned to produce 6,000 tons, which can satisfy the use of more than 3.5 million acres of cotton fields.”
The Aksu region is China’s high-quality commercial cotton production base and one of the important main cotton-producing areas and high-yield areas. The cotton industry is its agricultural pillar industry. Cotton output accounts for one-fifth of Xinjiang’s total and about one-sixth of China’s total.
In recent years, the Aksu region has not only promoted the construction of high-standard cotton fields, high-efficiency water-saving drip irrigation, dry sowing and wet sowing, and full-process mechanized picking, but has also improved cotton quality by optimizing the cotton variety structure. >Consistency, cultivating cotton cooperatives to improve the organizational level of cotton production, promoting the construction of cotton industry alliances and other aspects of the cotton industry chain to promote the upgrading of the cotton industry.
Yu Shuangjie, director of the cotton experimental station of the above-mentioned improved cotton company, said: “The company’s germplasm resource bank has more than 6,000 germplasm resource samples, and more than a dozen excellent varieties have been cultivated through biological breeding. We strive to ensure that cotton varieties do not degrade and become more Adapt to mechanized operations.”
At the Xinhuicheng Agricultural Machinery Service Farmers Professional Cooperative in Awati County, Aksu Region, the staff just clicked the mouse, and the basic information of the agricultural machinery, operating area and location were clear at a glance on the large screen. Lei Yangang, chairman of the cooperative, said: “The joint cooperative is composed of 13 agricultural machinery cooperatives and has more than 1,300 sets of various agricultural machinery. With the help of the modern agricultural smart platform, it has realized plowing, sowing, mechanical harvesting, and recycling of residual film in cotton fields. The ‘one-stop’ service provides modern agricultural machinery services not only covering Awati County, but also radiating to other counties and cities.”
Xue Shiyun, a contractor in Qiongkul Aiken Village, Sanhe Town, Awati County, told reporters that the cotton from the 2,600 acres of high-standard cotton fields he contracted was sent to the purchase station in early December. This year, the yield per mu is about 400 kilograms. Through cooperatives, only two or three people can manage cotton fields well.
According to data from the Agricultural and Rural Affairs Bureau of Aksu Region, in 2022, the cotton planting area in Aksu Region will be 8.1232 million acres, the cotton mechanical harvest rate will reach more than 85%, and the total cotton output will be 1.1513 million tons.
The cotton in the Aksu region is well-known throughout the country. It not only drives the development of local planting industry and agricultural machinery modernization, but also drives the vigorous development of the textile and clothing industry. As of the end of October this year, the Aksu region has completed and put into production the following textile and clothing production capacity: 5.55 million spindles of spinning yarn, 11,663 looms, 3,107 sock machines, 76.65 million pieces/set of clothing and home textiles, and 170 textile and clothing companies in normal operation.
Data shows that from January to October, 67 regulated textile and garment enterprises achieved an industrial added value of 2.032 billion yuan (RMB, the same below), and the output of their main products was 402,700 tons. The 42 textile and garment production capacity construction projects implemented have completed investments of 5.5 billion yuan and created 6,515 new jobs.
