Pu’er Mojiang: Spring silkworm production yields a bumper harvest, and it’s the right time to purchase silkworm cocoons

In recent years, Mojiang Hani Autonomous County in Pu’er City has combined the development of the sericulture industry with the promotion of rural revitalization, promoted the quality and efficiency of the sericulture industry, and strived to increase both the quantity and quality of sericulture production, ensuring the increase in production and income of sericulture farmers.

Early in the morning, silkworm farmers carried their cocoons to the sericulture station in Longba Town, Mojiang County. The station was bustling with people, and there was a long queue of silkworm farmers who came to sell cocoons. The staff are busy weighing and settling baskets of fresh cocoons. The purchase price is 60 yuan per kilogram. After a while, a small “snow mountain” was piled up in the station, and the white silkworm cocoons set off the smiling faces of the harvest.

Zhou Shengming, a villager in the Puqie Group of Longbin Village, Longba Town, Mojiang County, said: “I have been raising silkworms for 15 years. This batch of spring silkworms has a yield of 45 kilograms and can be sold for 2,500 yuan. Four spring silkworms can be raised in a year. Zhang, his income is more than 10,000 yuan.”

In order to increase silkworm cocoon production, mulberry orchard management is one of the keys. Li Weifang, a villager from the Nanda Group of Longba Village, Longba Town, Mojiang County, rushed home as soon as she sold the cocoons to manage the mulberry garden and clean the silkworm house to prepare for the arrival of summer silkworms next season.

“The better the mulberry leaves we feed, the bigger the silkworms we raise and the better the cocoons we produce.” Li Weifang said.

It is understood that so far, the county has purchased about 30 tons of spring cocoons. It is expected to complete the purchase of spring cocoons on May 25 and the seeding of summer silkworms on May 30.

Chen Wei, a technical staff member of the sericulture unit of the Mojiang County Tea and Specialty Biological Industry Development Center, said: “There are more than 4,000 acres of mulberry gardens in the county, and the annual silkworm cocoon output can reach more than 200 tons, and the output value can reach more than 10 million yuan. Next, We will continue to shrink in general and expand in specific areas, cultivate large breeding households, strengthen technical training, provide services to increase income of sericulture farmers, and create a new situation in the sericulture industry.”
