Fulong Yao Township, Yizhou District: Silkworm cocoons enjoy a good harvest, and “white cocoons” turn into “red tickets”
“I only raised three-quarters of the first batch of silkworm cocoons this year. After more than a month of breeding, I harvested more than 200 kilograms of cocoons. The current price of fresh cocoons per kilogram is 24 yuan. This batch of cocoons A total of more than 5,000 yuan was sold,” silkworm farmer Wei Yunhua said cheerfully. Silkworm breeding has the advantages of low investment, quick results, high efficiency, and can fully absorb idle rural labor force. It is an important economic industry in Fulong Yao Township.
Recently, Sister Wei, another silkworm farmer in Shanditun, is busy peeling off cocoons. Sister Wei and her 72-year-old mother planted 5 acres of mulberry leaves, and the yield of mulberry leaves was sufficient. As soon as the silkworm seeds were distributed this year, the two ordered a piece of 3-year-old silkworm seeds to start breeding. After 25 days of picking, feeding, bunching, and spinning silk, the cocoons can be peeled off and sold today. “The first batch of silkworm seeds are more edible and have more mulberry leaves, so the yield is higher. I can harvest at least 150 kilograms. They all said that my silkworm cocoons look very good and should be sold for 25 yuan per kilogram. I also hope that I can Sell it at a good price!” Sister Wei said with expectation.
In recent years, the township has actively encouraged farmers to grow mulberry and raise sericulture by building a small silkworm breeding base, implementing the policy of awarding subsidies in lieu of subsidies for the mulberry silkworm industry, and carrying out “sending technology” to the countryside for breeding technology training, driving farmers to increase their income and become rich. Up to now, the area of mulberry gardens in the township has reached 22,088 acres. More than 27,460 silkworm seeds have been distributed in the township in spring. It is expected that 720 tons of silkworm cocoons will be harvested, and farmers’ income will be nearly 36 million yuan.
