How can the textile industry achieve high-quality development? Enter Shengze Town to find out
The textile industry is one of the traditional advantageous industries in my country’s manufacturing industry. Chinese-made textiles are cheap, high-quality, and marketed around the world. They have long become a well-known international brandMade in ChinaBusiness card. Next, we will go to Shengze Town, Jiangsu Province, one of the largest garment fabrics production and trading centers in the country, to see how indispensable the manufacturing industry there is.
As soon as this year started, local companies began to expand into new markets and grab orders. During the interview, the reporter found that there was a place in Shengze Town that was often packed with seats.
This English training class is actually held in the DongfangSilk Market in Shengze Town, Suzhou, which is the largest chemical fiber fabric trading market in the country. Many students and reporters said that they learned English in order to participate in exhibitions overseas this year and expand overseas markets. From the Spring Festival to now, more than 90 companies have signed up for the overseas exhibition recommendation action organized by the government, which is 30% more than in previous years. With companies so gearing up, what is the foreign trade situation in Shengze Town? Come and see the reporter’s visit.
Chen Depin runs a foreign trade company in the Oriental Silk Market, mainly exporting clothing fabrics to South America. Early that morning, he took the new cloth sample to a testing agency to test whether the quality of the cloth met the customer’s requirements. This was an essential step before organizing large-scale production.
Chen Depin, the person in charge of Suzhou Yabo Textile Co., Ltd.: In previous years, I would come here once or twice a week. This year, I estimate I will go here every day.
On Chen Depin’s desk, there is already a thick pile of orders just received this month, and future orders are also scheduled until May. Chen Depin does not have his own production company. In order to organize production, he has been visiting merchants in the market at eight o’clock every day recently. From selecting fabrics to communicating patterns and organizing production, to shipping and packaging, the beginning of the new year was busier than he expected.
Shengze Town has a complete textile industry chain “from a drop of oil to a piece of cloth” and “from a thread to a brand”. The local Oriental Silk Market gathers more than 7,000 companies engaged in fabric production and trade. The trading volume of chemical fiber fabrics accounts for 50% of the country’s total trading volume, of which more than half are foreign trade orders.
The reporter visited several merchants in the market and found that many merchants had an increase in foreign trade orders at the beginning of the new year.
Although the new year started with good momentum, many companies are not relaxed because customers’ requirements for fabrics are constantly increasing.
During the visit, the reporter found that many companies are accelerating fabric research and development.
Jiang Nan, general manager of Jiangsu Lomain Roland Group Outdoor New Materials Co., Ltd.: This piece of fabric changes color when exposed to temperature; this yellow piece is a fabric that produces different colors at different temperatures; and this piece of fabric will change color under ultraviolet rays. Poetry cannot be produced indoors, it can only be produced outdoors.
In 2019, the company developed two new products every quarter, but now it has to develop two new fabrics to provide customers with every month. This year, the company has further increased investment in research and development, hoping to establish its own international fabric brand.
Jiang Nan, General Manager of Jiangsu Lomain Rolland Group Outdoor New Materials Co., Ltd.: At present, almost all the world’s well-known fabric brands are concentrated in the United States and Japan, and there are currently none in China. Traditional discourse says that there is no way to build a brand with fabrics, because fabrics are easily copied. But in fact, when your development and innovation reach a certain level, it cannot be copied. Therefore, it is more difficult to establish a fabric brand than a ready-to-wear brand, but this path is more important and must be taken.
