Chongqing Qianjiang District: Rock Desert sericulture “takes” a new “silk” road
Qianjiang District of Chongqing City is one of the areas with serious rocky desertification in the country. This area combines rocky desertification control with the development of the sericulture industry, planting a large number of mulberry trees, and developing sericulture as an industry for farmers to get rid of poverty and become rich, and for rural revitalization.
After more than 10 years of development, the mulberry trees in the rocky desert land in this area have gradually become forests, and the bedrock exposure of the land has dropped from more than 60% to less than 30%. The ecological environment of Qianjiang River has been greatly improved, and the economic and social benefits have been significantly improved, achieving a “win-win” between the sericulture industry and rocky desertification control. The picture shows on May 6, villagers in Shuanglong Village, Zhuoshui Town, Qianjiang District, inspected the growth of sericulture in the rocky desert land.
At present, the sericulture area in the region reaches 100,000 acres.
In 2021, the cocoon output will reach more than 60,000 tons, and the comprehensive income of sericulture farmers will reach 200 million yuan, becoming the largest sericulture planting base in Chongqing, and was approved by the State Forestry and Grassland Administration as the “Chongqing Qianjiang National Sericulture Biological Industry Base” , is currently the only sericulture biological industry base in China.
At the same time, Qianjiang District made full use of high-quality silkworm resources and introduced two leading companies to build a silk industrial park to use cocoons purchased from local farmers. It is processed into silk quilts, weaving silk, clothing and other products, forming a full industrial chain integrating mulberry planting, sericulture, silk reeling, silk weaving, silk quilts, and silk clothing. Its products have been sold to the United Kingdom, Japan, and Hungary. , India and other countries have embarked on a “Silk Road”.
